Mongoose supporting 4e and Conan?

I've played Conan since it came out now, and would love to continue playing. However with Mongoose supporting 4e will this affect their Conan line? I'm definitely concerned as the amount of support/releases for Conan has already been few and far between.

It seems Hasbro has made some pretty strict demands which would directly hinder a Conan game:

7. Quality and Content Standards. The nature and quality of all Licensed Products will conform to the quality standards set by Wizards, as may be provided from time to time. At a minimum, the Licensed Products will conform to community standards of decency and appropriateness as determined by Wizards in its discretion. Without limiting the foregoing, no Licensed Products will depict in any text, graphical or other manner:

(a) excessively graphic violence or gore;
(b) sexual situations, sexual abuse, pornography, gratuitous nudity of human or humanoid forms, genitalia, or sexual activity;

I also remember reading somewhere that 3rd OGL and 4e OGL could not both be supported (and conan runs on 3rd)

As I understand it, as long as Mongoose doesn't produce a Conan book in the 4e system they can continue producing OGL books 'till Atlantis rises. If I've read the GSL right, MGP can in fact produce 4e books for other game lines without affecting the OGL Conan line.

I think that's correct too. Since they dont' publish any "D&D" labeled material its ok for them to continue Conan d20.

4E is a decent game but I can see a lot of things about it that would make it totally unsuitable for Conan.

I've been playing D&D since 1980, and where I accepted 3E due to it's efforts to re-create the 1E atmosphere, I can't even take another look at 4E D&D. It's a completely different game, and IMHO it would be a TERRIBLE move for the Conan RPG to adopt the 4E system. Not only would the mechanics make the game suffer, but the content strictures would devolve the setting into something totally out of it's intended spirit. I hope that Conan stays where it is- safe and sound in 3E OGL land, where you can show a naked breast and an axe in some guys chest.... :twisted:

Not to mention how all d20 Conan books would no longer be supported if Conan goes 4e, as it notes that publishers can only do one or the other! I also like who Conan is an all in one book (The idea of having look at all that eye-sore 4e art just to play Conan sickens me!).

And yes, you cant have Conan without the...

You are welcome! It is really astonishing what Kenzer did (at least to me, I am not well-versed in law).

Hoestly, I hope that Conan stays as it is, a basically 3.0 product. 4e sucks, and would simply not work for the Conan setting. powers every level for every class just isn't in the flavor of the Conan stories, and the mechanic simply does not suit the raw, gritty combat needed to be Hyboria. With all the surges and "heal after zero HP" aspects of combat, it just wouldn't feel like Conan anymore. The Conan RPG function now as is, with the skills system and prolific multi-classing capability intact.

There's no multi-classing in 4e....at all. It would be a terrible move to try to switch to a 4e Conan product, particularly given the success of the game system as it paralleled D&D. I wager that the success of Conan (along with AEGs Spycraft system) led to the decision to ground-up revamp D&D in the first place. Wizards couldn't handle the competition.

Many things that are in d20 Conan were not in d20 3.x, so I do not see why some mechanics could not be added.
As for multiclassing and other things, it is also a matter of preference. As I said elsewhere, if an Age of Conan game can exist with Conan Properties endorsement, I do not see why a 4e game could not. They would simply imply different campaign views of the Hyborian Age.
