Mongoose Goes Green And Saves Money Too?

I've just been assembling some Tinashi's and then i looked at the spare metal that the wings were attached to thats gonna go into the bin.
Shame really.
I wonder if Mongoose could consider starting a promotion for the return of all those metal bits that end up in the bin?
They could be melted and recycled.
For example, take a blister pack of fighters (4 flights).Each 3 fighters comes attached to a bar, which you take them off.
So thats 8 bars per fighter pack.
Thats alot of metal to throw away.
Accepting this returned metal would save Mongoose money. And good publicity , environmental etc.
Offer a fighter flight/ship for a certain amount of returns etc.

Interesting. Depends on whether melting them down (i.e. paying for the energy to do so) would yield enough metal to make a difference. Also, you could only send Mongoose metal back... because if other metals get mixed in you may create flaws.

Can we get a Mongoose ruling on this?

It does sound interesting, though.
 
Not to mention the carbon cost of the melting bits down, etc. I can't see that it makes green sense to do this for anything but whole ships (sadly).
 
depends, they could put it all in a big bin then when they have enough melt the whole load down. that would be economicaly viable then.
 
Like they don't have to melt down the metal anyway to pour it into casts? They could just put it all into a bin until its needed and then pour the bin contents into the melting pot and off they go....

The real question is whether MG do the casting themselves or get some outside company to do it, but it sounds a great idea to me!

Anyway, I think this could work very nicely. Perhaps they could have a 'metal reward program'?
For example:

Sending 20 of them in gets you a fighter blister of your choice
Sending 50 of them in gets you a smaller ship
Sending 150 of them in gets you a medium sized ship
Sending 300 of them in gets you one of the larger ships
Sending 500 of them in gets you a Armaggeddon sized ones(they are HUGE right?)
Sending 2000 of them in gets you a reinforcements box set(liek the Narn one)
Sending 5000 of them in gets you a Fleet Box.

Since not all ships have the same sized stubs and whatnot, maybe it would be better for mongoose to do it via weight?

The key to this being succesful for Mongoose, is that they figure out how much metal it takes to make each one of those different products listed above, and then determine a fair and reasonable amount that needs to be sent in based off of that number(and of course some extra should be required so mongoose actually MAKES money off of this and doesnt loose money instead).

I was referring to economically viable in terms of postage, etc. for reclaiming the flash. Not to mention environmentally viable in transport of said flash... :(
 
The whole idea would be based on saving Mongoose metal costs, and allowing the customer to feel all enivironmentally happy :lol:
Could work in the USA since the foundry is there and postage costs are minimal.

I don't see an issue with the transporting side of it, as there will be mail going in the same direction anyway.

It's not like the mail service provider of you country would send you one parcel in a van/plane all by itself. What you would be doing is to lower the enviromental impact of every parcel/letter on that van/plane by a little bit by adding an additional parcel, as the weight wouldn't have enough of an imact to increase the impact.
 
I remelt all my little metal bits from all my minis. I sculpt and cast other things to use it for, it's safer than lead for sure and since I already paid for it when I bought my minis, cheaper than buying ingots.

You make your own? Oh, please tell us the procedure for this...
 
Im gonna hazard a guess that he puts the bits into a metal casting cauldron and heats it up to the melting point of the metal inside(no idea what that is), and then lets it harden and stores it until he is ready use it.

When he is, he simply heats the metal again and pours it into a mold(which cannot be made of RTV silicon or it will melt/burn).

Didn't know if there alternative to buying any actual equipment... because I'm cheap. Perhaps an "at home" method; the same way you might make fondu, perhaps :D .
