Models

Hello all,

Can anyone point me to decent sources for British Army vehicles in 1/60 scale? I'm given to understand this corresponds neatly to 28mm infantry figures, but all I'm seeing is 1/72, 1/48 or 1/35 kits.

Any help gratefully received.

1/60 - As far as I remeber - none!
1/64: West Wind:

Also 28mm corresponse better to 1/56, and in that scale a growing range of vehicles is available.

Thanks. The guy from S and S Models is the one that told me 28mm is the same as 1/60, and his models are marked 28mm (1/60) on the site.

Bizarrely the wikipedia article on model scales says 28mm is the same as 1/48, which is a much larger model than 1/60. So which is actually correct? :?

I should probably have mentioned I'm looking for modern stuff, not WW2. Cheers.

1/48 figures are a bit too big, around 38-40mm if i remember rightly, although the vehicles are about ok. 25-28mm is around 1/56-60ish, although some of the bigger 1/72nd vehicles would work with 'true' 25mm figures.
There is a thread about this from the early BF:Evo days. If you're looking for modern vehicles, you might do well to have a look at die cast models. I know Schuco do a few in about 1/56 scale.

For 28mm modern check out Chieftain (T-62, T-72), S&S (or Sands), Assault Group and Company B.

...and yes, it would have been more efficient if you would have mentioned that you are interested in 28mm modern vehicles...

Company B is the only name there I don't already know. Have you a link, comrade?

It seems that between S&S and the Assault Group I can get most of the British vehicles I'm likely to want, but I can't seem to locate a 1/60 Apache Longbow or Challenger II model. Any ideas?

Ahem, see above, last link...

Got it. They don't seem to be much help. Anyone at all know where I could get a Challenger II in the appropriate scale?

Imprint got one:

and
http://www.imprintmodels.co.uk/Product.aspx?pid=31

They are 1/50 however!

I got their Warrior model, great kit, but a bit too big for my taste.

Thanks Agis. Why can't anyone make them in 1/60? If that's the closest to 28mm which seems to be a very common size for infantry figures you'd think people would be making more vehicles in scale with them for gamers... :?

Dunno. Modern 28mm wargames aren't that common I think. For historicals 1/72 or micro scale has seemed to be more common to me though I could be wrong.

Yeah, what's that about? Who wants tiny little models you can barely see with the naked eye?

Ranges and ground scale comes to mind. You aren't in gunfight in knife fighting range ;-)

Also makes lot easier to play bigger games than few squads skirmishing. Not everybody has football field to play regimental scale battles :D

I like 6mm. Quick and easy to paint, look good(GHQ rocks) and allows bloody big battles easily in your standard gaming board. Nothing like hundred+ russian vechiles advancing toward british line!

warriors are very big though in real world.. supprisingly big... friend of mine is a qualified driver of one and loves them. got a pic some where comparing the size of the warrior challenger 2 and scorpion...

Me again. Anyone know any retailers for 20mm modern figures? That's the same as 1/72, right?

Ha! I asked the same question 2 or 3 weeks ago on several forums.
The biggest range is from Liberation minis:

I have ordered some US minis and like them. I will have them painted posted on website over the weekend.

And then there is always soft plastic.

And yes - 20mm equals 1/72 more or less...

Agis, you're alright. Thanks man. :)

I'll be very keen to see your painted US models. Looks like these people can supply everything I need, more or less. I can probably live without a Scimitar, for instance, if I can get a Challenger 2 and Warrior instead.

One small request - could you take a scale shot of the 1/72 stuff next to something in 28mm or thereabouts? A GW figure of some sort would be ideal. Many thanks for your help, large lord. Come over to the UK sometime and I'll buy you a proper English beer.
