i think mongoose should at least try to make BF and SST balanced in points. than there will be like 8 armies. im hoping im not the only person who wants to see marines fighting against giant bugs, or a tank trying to take on a Forth robot. 8)

who agrees?!

not realy doable

you cant ballance real day tanks V scfi ideas, or you loose the real day edge and it turns int yet another scfi game.

also the main weapon of the mi would have to drasticly change in stats to say a D8 or something so its more futuristic than the modern rifle, but then in effect everything in the scfi world would have to be toughter to balance that out, and it would turn into a mess.

2 games similiar rules if you insist on having usmc fighting bugs then you can for fun. if you wish it to be official then exspect another year of playtesting a rewrihting the rules and stats for everything.

id say a years worth it if theyre willing to try it out. i personally dont mind a delay in models since they look...well, bad. and since we will all be playing with toys not models, i dont really see a rush.

the question is, if mongoose is willing to try it, will you support it?

oh yeah, heres what matt said.

* If you really fancy a very strange game, Starship Troopers will be fully compatible with Battlefield Evolution so yes, your US Marines could find themselves facing a horde of Warrior Bugs – though we do not recommend it for the sane!

it seems to me they already had it in mind.

Well, I did a Wave 1 USMC vs. Wave 1 bug army, and the USMC easily mopped the floor with the bugs.

I think that in general, the mobility of SST armies is what makes the balance so far off between the games. A stand and shoot type army isn't any sort of hindrance in BF:Evo because every army is stand and shoot, but in SST:Evo, EVERY race has models capable of movement faster than pretty much anything in BF:Evo (and firing on the move). Sure, this mobility comes at a price, but because it is so omnipresent that any unit that lacks great mobility is worth less.

A LAMI trooper may be a steal in BF:Evo for 10pts, but in SST:Evo, we're finding out that even 10pts might be too expensive! The different dynamics of SST make balance a much more difficult issue. If you simply made BF:Evo armies a part of SST:Evo, then I'm sure you'd see a ton of point CHANGES, but not necessarily all increases or decreases.

Ugh, before this gets into a quoting contest again.

Let me say that the comment about BFE and SSTE being compatable is completely true, and also false.

BFE and SSTE share the exact same core rules. The rules available inside the BFE boxes are exactly the same as the ones that will come with the SST boxes. Thus, you could play the two armies against each other out of the box. It's likely they'll also share many of the same advanced rules.

The problem comes from, as many have already stated. These two games are not balanced against each other, but instead they are balanced within their own respective universe.

The real strength here is that players don't have to learn an entirely new rules set if they want to switch games.

Yes. And they are compatible. It's not like they are different rules...

And note the words we do not recommend it for the sane? Why would that be...Maybe because they knew it would not be balanced straight out of the box and so would need lots of fiddling around with point totals...

Well, I know for certain that someone out there is going to make revised point values for the BFE armies to use in SST.

But only through a complete redoing of every BFE unit's point values will it be balanced, and we'll likely see a lot of changes to relative unit strengths to fit the game.

Then they can be called some special of diminutive humanoids on the verge of outright war with each other, until the galaxy catches up with them and the war of species lands on their planet.

Matt's also said repeatedly that while the units will be cross-compatible, they won't be point balanced between games.
