Mongoose
I know it has been a long time since i kept up with everything that is going on at mongoose, but why have they not switched the miniatures over to pre painted plastics? They switched the SST mini's over to them, and I know that there have been massive problems with getting the drakh mothership made. Personally I'm somewhat offended by this.

it has been stated quite regularly that mongoose will not be doing pre painted plastics for ACTA. That is i suspect why they haven't ;-)

alrightt, after reading the state of the mongoose adress (thank you to whoever pointed me to it) i accept that prepainted plastics aint gonna happen. however i do have one question for you all about the state of mongoose mini's, have they fixed the mini's / stands and made it so they fit each other without lots of hole widening/stand sanding, or just making custom stands?

that is the biggest detractor for me, cause my custom stands dont work well for delicate/thin mini's

What, and take all the fun out of the hobby  I wouldn't be able to complain about shadow scouts anymore.

Nope.

My last order, which was hot out of the mold, had metal post and metal base. These were Drakh patrol cruisers. It may be that they are going with the metal and not the plastic. So far it seems to be great. Everything went together very well. Minimal filing for post and mold lines. :D

Not to mention the post's shear strength should be considerably higher.

I've barely built my fleet and I'm already replacing the plastic posts with brass tubing.

One alternative is not to attach the miniature directly to the stem - I use magnets to connect the two and haven't had a single breakage yet despite using the standard plastic flying bases.

I good idea in principle. I use rare earth magnets to keep my tank turrets attached to the hulls with my WWII minis. I find brass rod to be considerably cheaper than rare earth magnets for attaching ships.

I used the same system for my WH40K skimmers. Works pretty well except for the really big ones.

Should work well for ACTA too although some ships (like my Minbari) lack convenient places to mount the magnets. Slightly boxier ships should work fine.
