miniature movement

Hi all, I had a couple of questions about miniatures with runequest. I prefer squares for indoor movement and hexes for outside movement. So with that in mind:

1) Do most people use 1 meter squares and hexes for combat?

2) Has anyone ran into problems with either squares or hexes in combat?

3) What do you prefer? Perhaps you have some tips that might come in handy for the rest of us?

Deleriad posted this a while back:

If you type 'grid' on the forum search under RuneQuest II it brings the subsequent discussion up as well.

Right, I actually know about this. I posted a response to it in the thread at the time.

However I'm not entirely sold on 2 meter squares. Thats why I started this thread to find out what other people think. His Grid post is very intuitive but perhaps there are other ways of doing things. :)

I currently use 1 meter per hexagon for combat and movement, indoors or outside. Hexagons make diagonal movement seem more fluid than squares.
One meter per hex feels right. Miniatures placed next to each other are close enough for combat with short or medium length weapons, with a little room for maneuvering. For longer weapons, miniatures can be placed with one hex intervening. I've thought about using two meters per hex and simply noting when combatants are close-in to avoid moving the miniatures so much. This would also effectively double the movement space available on a given sheet of hexagon paper.
