Too true, I'm not sure how many lines exist beyond the main trunk line anymore. But not many. Also we don't have that many motorways outside of the cities. Its pretty much all single lane roads. I've driven from Auckland to Wellington a few times, and you can do it in a day, but its hard going. And thats less than half the distance to Invercargill, without counting a several hour ferry crossing.
