Minbari Patrol Level Ship

Most races have at least some form of patrol level ship, and some of them are even good enough to bother taking in skirmishes and raids. Does anyone else out there (appealing to the Minbari fan base) think that the Minbari, being a major race, should have some form of patrol ship?

They already have patrol ships. It's just that their patrol ships are so good, they don't occupy the Patrol level. The two shouldn't be confused.

Although I don't really NEED a patrol ship for my fleet, it does sadden me that this lack of an initiative sink severely hurts my ability to stay out of the bore-sight arcs of enemy vessels. ...Especially against those darn Marathons... :wink:

In any case, it does seem odd that several fleets are lacking a ship or two in some of the priority levels: Shadows, Vorlons, Minbari, Brakiri.... I guess it doesn't matter any longer as we are going to get what Matt gives us.

Wow... and I'm usually the grouchy one...

Let's not get into Matt bashing here folks. He has done more than most companies in that he put his ideas out before the book comes out, and asked if you liked it, does it work. Just because he doesn't like, at this time, some of the other ideas we've thrown out doesn't make him the bad guy.

It's taken, literally, years to get a bore sight special SA to handle sinks... it takes some time to work this stuff in. And sometimes they just want a different concept. Give them time to take our suggestions and work them in in ways they are comfortable with.

no, the ISA have average choices - not great ones, at skirmish - Shadows have NONE at all.

Ok ok, I'll concede that point.

I don't know what a Patrol Minbari ship would even be... I can't recall anything bigger than a fighter, but smaller than one of their cruisers.

I wonder if we'll ever get a Valen.

Matt talked about the imminent release of a Valen a couple of months before the announcment that mini production was ceasing. So one might suspect that if and when we get some new ships then the Valen ought to be near the top of the list. Only question is which Valen.

If a Valen mini fails to materialise then I will probably scratchbuild one at some point, low priority of course since it is ISA. (And I would have to carve it from Stilton, just to get the smell right)

I want to emphasis that I want a Valen Class, from Lost Tales, and not The Valen horse shoe thing from the movie that need not be named.

I assume it would be Skirmish / Raid? - perhaps a dedicated diplomatic courier at Skirmish and the "Cruiser" at Raid?

Thats a good point. It isn't really a warship. I imagine it is equipped...

As much as I'd like to see the ship, seeing as there weren't any combat scenes in that flick, outside of Sheridan wanting to shoot his Starfury at... well... you know who.

I don't know I can get behind it being included as a Warship, if it really was just a glorified Air Force One.

I don't see any guns.

Hindsight totally agree on the Valens

Having said that, there is a B5 site that shows several concept art options for "the Flying brick" and the alternatives are a much better (i.e more Minbari [in fact one reminds me of a Romulan cruiser from STNG] than the screen model.

Da-Boss - Skirmish and Raid options sounds spot on.

there was stats generated months ago - same time as I did one for the Centauri Imperial Barge.

IMO the Valen has fighters / flyers and probably a few mini-beams

The Cruisers - not sure - the launch bay does seem pretty dominant..........perhaps a goodly few fighters - helping to counteract the growing ability of other races carriers and fighters - so maybe a lightly armed but fast and maneuvable strike carrier in the same vein as the Amar.

I dunno it seems pretty small to me, I don't know if it'd have more than a few flyers and maybe max 2 Flights of Nials, or White Star Fighters.

I imagine it'd be available to both Minbari and ISA, not sure if it is exclusively ISA, it appears to be in the film, but at that point... I don't know there is much separation between Earth and Minbar anymore.

Cruiser varision - Agree the launch bay is the most prominant feature of any Minbari design style ship. Big enough to hold and launch White Star fighters?. And if we get back to the topic of this thread, perhaps even a Minbari fleet version which incorporates a new large fighter. 1 fighter to a base patrol level?. Could certainly fit with the fluff from several angles.

Not that I necessarily believe the Minbari in the game have a need for a large fighter but could be interesting
