Midlands Gaming Club - Options

I've made some enquiries into venues for a gaming club to meet, and I have two options. Both are acceptable to me, but obviously I'd like to get the opinions of everyone involved/interested.

First option is the local Scouts troop building. It's available on saturday afternoons at £10 an hour, which includes the use of toilets (including accessible toilet), kitchen, pots, heating, etc. Ample space in the main hall and ample tables on-site we could use. We'd need to bring scenery and such along, but for ACtA (or other space games) the tables would be pretty much fine. Parking on-site for about six cars, reasonably easy to get to by road. It's right on the Spondon Flyer bus route from the city centre, so those coming in by bus or rail would be able to get there easy enough.

Second option is the local parish room. It's also available on saturday afternoons, for the slightly-cheaper price of £7 per hour. Facilities are much the same as the Scouts' place, but newer. Basically no parking on site but there's a car park across the road, five minutes walk away. Also easy to get to by bus, Spondon Flyer into the village and walk about ten minutes.

I'm easy which way you guys want to go. If you want me to look into more venues I can, but I don't think we'll find anything cheaper or better than either of these. If anyone interested in participating could make their opinion known, I can move things along.

Naturally, we'll need a commitee to deal with the money and such. I'll happily organise things for now but I don't want to get landed with the treasurer's job, I hate maths and counting money that isn't mine. Anyway, over to you guys, I've prattled on long enough.

should be east midlands club ;) or derby club, or nottingham club or something. after all I am in the midlands but would take me a good 90mins-2hrs to get to you :D

You're a southerner. Be quiet.

This is mostly for the Derby/Notts/Leicester etc people, but all are welcome to come along and get involved when things get off the ground.

South of Birmingham is south.

Anyone got any thoughts?
Nah south of Warwick/Northampton is south (basically, the counties that make up the East Midlands, West Midlands and East Anglia are in the middle, anything above is north, anything below is south (in England).

Oh, you meant about the gaming club. :) My problem is free time. I'd love to come along but Saturdays would be once a month at best (whether it's a Nottingham Forest match, running, travel, etc.) Tuesdays would be your best bet for me but as I book up so quickly I wouldn't plan around me, I'll simply show up as often as I can... as for the venues - either sounds good to me.

I'm looking at once a month initially. You realise this is a way to get you and Ben into Derby for games, don't you? You'd damn well better show up, or drunken ex-KGB hitmen will be bribed with vodka to sodomise you to death...

Anyone else want to add anything? Come on you peasants, we need members here!

well if you including leicester you got low roller and co there.
best thing is to advertise the club in places in derby (if thats where its gonna be) like GW and any other independant stockists so people who play all sorts could come down. then introduce them to other games. alot of GW players dont realise there are other systems out there i think.

I can't advertise in GW until the club is up and running. There are a couple of other places I could advertise, but I really need founding members before I can put details out there.

That means you slovenly lot! God help me...

which from here is limited in your area. I would recommend finding other wargame sites then and advertise that you are starting a club up and that you are seeing how much interest there is 1st.

Hi there,

If it was going to be once a month on a Saturday then please count me in. Any more frequent than that and I would suggest a move to a weeknight evening as that might suit more people. But yeah count me in for now.

Either venue sounds ok to me.

wow anotehr derby person. didnt know more the LDTD existed as a B5 player there :D
Derby folk don't advertise themselves so readily when there's a prominent Nottingham person on the boards ;) (and vice versa)

Once a month on Saturdays would work with me (so long as there's no clash with the footy). What would timings be? Most of the day or afternoon/evening? Either would be cool, especially if you could have a quick drink afterwards.

I'd be looking at a four-hour slot, 1400-1800, and thence to whichever local pub you lot fancy. We have pubs to spare around here. Some are best avoided, of course, but there you go. Scout building is five minutes from the Yarn Spinner, not sure what that's like, I've never been in there. Church room is five minutes from the Malt Shovel, quiet pub that doesn't often see a drinker under forty. Many other pubs nearby of course.

If you let me know when your matches are on, Triggy, I can pick a slot that won't clash with it as often as possible. If interested parties could sign their names up here it'd be helpful for me to know some provisional numbers. Cheers.

Well if your looking for a club in the Midlands, I help run a weekday club in Leicester, if your intrested drop us a PM
