Middle Eastern buildings

The Airfix junior kits are a bit large but they were originally intended for conversion to Imperial Guard or Orc for 40K and they look just right beside them plus you could actually get figs on the back. If the BFE stuff is smaller that might nix my plans.

On the other hand Tamiya has a great and growing selection of 1/48 armor and much of it is new molds. If the figs end up being too small to use there are some beautiful dicasts out there in various scales, mostly from europe and mostly expensive.

So, dsfrankevo, what's your mix?

Straight - Minwax brand oil based Stain - color Tudor - available @ Home Depot/ Lowes/ DIY stores the world over (at least in the states  )

As it is oil based I clean my brushes and sometimes thin out heavy spots (while the stain is still wet) with Mineral Spirits

I've used various brands of inks, sometimes thinned w/ water in the past - but have been so pleased w/ my Minwax washes that I don't mess with the ink-water or ink- floor polish mixes

I believe the best reason to avoid tap water is if you keep the mix it might start to smell off after a while if you use tap water but this should not happen if you use distilled water. I have heard that boiled water works as well but I use distilled water just in case, also because it is simpler – I have a bottle on my workbench.

I've got a question for dsfrankevo. I picked up the plasticville hospital. What's your thoughts on it. Should I leave it in it's original white with the minwax dip you're talking about, or, should I paint it, then dip? I know I want to paint the window sills and door siver and put a red crescent on it, beyond that, I'm debating.

For nice terrain folks should have a look at Combat Zone Chronicles at http://combatzonechronicles.net/

Their terrain tips are great

Similarly, although colonial historical (well sort of) have a look at The Major General and their terrain

At this point I "dip" nearly everything - it gives a consistency to the table - I had not had the opportunity to "Dip Up" one of my newer buildings "Ramone's House of Body Art "- a playset from the movie cars - to my eye it stood out on the table - for my most recent event - I got it dipped and I felt it looked better on the table - I'l also recommend you prime any of the plastic RR buildings - lessens the "plastic" look of the buildings - I love the Hospital - it is one of my favorite plasticville buildings

Did you get rid of the "platicville hopsital" sign, and if so, how? Did you grind it down with a Dremmel?

Have done both - Dremel results were less satisfactory - gouged the building - but looked ok as battle damage -

Using a sharp ex-acto to shave it off then hit it w/ sand paper worked best - but took more time - gave a smooth are to repaint a new sign

what scale plasicvill are you using as ive looked around and their are 2, so a heads up would be cool

I wasn't going to answer - as I wanted to avoid another discussion over how my O gauge terrain and my 1/48 scale die cast toy cars were inaccurate and that the Scale Polezi would hold me in comtempt for daring to use non-Mongoose sanctioned terrain

Looks like the cat is out of the bag - let the Scale Nazi rants begin

the 0 scale looks good

i think scale for building can vary a bit as different places have different standards for sizes often.

they look good.

I'm on your side, DS :D

According to my math-fu, BF:EVO soldiers measure almost 30mm from the heel to the top of the head. That figure has already been corrected for thick boots and kevlar headgear - they'd probably be more like 31-32mm without correction.

Assuming an average male height, that puts them at 1/59 scale. 1/64 or 1/65 scale vehicles and accessories are simply going to be too small compared to the soldiers. This is aggravated by the fact that soldiers are on bases which easily add another 2-3mm to their height. 1/65 would be the correct scale if the soldiers were 28mm to the top of the head, but that does not seem to be the case.

At a rough guesstimate, I'd pick 1/55 as the ideal scale for BF:EVO vehicles and scenery. 1/50 and thereabouts may be a touch on the big side, because BF:EVO does hover towards the short end of the 28mm scale, but works with "heroic" scaled figures who tend to be near 35mm tall when equipment and bases are included - my TAG USMC do, anyway.

As for scale nazism, what matters in the end is whether or not a scale looks good to you, the owner (ie. the guy who's paying his hard-earned money for the stuff in the first place!). Personally, I tend to find undersized more disturbing than oversized, and when bases are involved oversized may even work better than a correct scale based purely on figure height.

The thing is the game, you're not building a diorama. I don't mind the "O" stuff, so I'll mix it in. If you don't, don't use it. End of story. The whole 25 to 30mm range is a mess anyway. My guys won't mind....

Just be more careful with the Dremel, you don't have to run it as fast as you...

Regardless of the finish you can hang signs over the top of anything. If you look at reference you will see the huge preponderance of vinyl (or cloth) sheet signs in all parts of the world. Particularly in areas where the building code is irregularly enforced. If you did temp. signs like that you could really easily switch them out by printing them in different languanges and using tacky glue to attatch them per scenario giving you that 'local' flavor.

I thought of something else that would be great for use. O scale freight containers. I ordered some from K-Line today but I'm sure someone in europe has some. You see them everywhere and they are small enough to give you some really flexible options. They could even make good objectives for a scenario.

Me too - but they're just too expensive for my tastes - looking to try to find a good deal on e-bay - but no luck yet - was thinking about chopping and channelling some HO Scale freight cars as they'd be roughly the size of a freight container - the trick is to make them look less like HO scale freight cars :?

i got a 00 scale warehouse today, no idea how it will look but its a tester, ned to build it later, worse case il use it for FOW.

Piccies? I personally just make my urban terrain, because I'm apparently cheap  . Oh well, maybe I should show pics of my board some time soon...
