MgT Traveller Neutron Laser?

Hello all,

Is a neutron laser a combination particle beam weapon and laser?

A neutron is one of the three sub-atomic particles, the other two are electron and proton, that make up an atom. In TNE/T4 one can use electrons or protons for a charged particle beam and the neutron for a neutral particle beam. The charged beam is effective in an atmosphere and the neutral beam is effective in vacuum.

What wavelength of light does MgT pulse and beam lasers use?

It's never been part of the canon. But there's no reason you couldn't add some variety by creating one.

If you do then you may also want to consider updating defenses as well. The old Renegade Legion universe had different types of energy weapons, as well as kinetic ones. They had flicker shields that acted like black globes. And the weapons fell inot two categories, one type punched narrow holes in armor while others stripped off layers. Combining the weapons helped to ensure that you could damage a ship regardless of its defenses.

As far as the wavelengths, that has never been talked about in the regular game. You may want to consult Striker or Fire, Fusion and Steel rule supplements to see if they have anything useful for you.

I have RL and have created rough spreadsheets for the design systems.

My question on the neutron laser was sparked by my attempts to use CT Striker Book 3 and TNE FF&S. Neither source appears to have come up with the idea of combining a Neutral PB Weapon with a Laser. One of the reasons why I have tried to figure out the weapon design sequences in Striker and TNE is to add a bit more reality to the TU. I really doubt the the Hiver's mount starship weapons that have the same characteristics as the 3I.

Thank you for the reply.

No?

Neutron lasers are cannon-sized beam lasers that are stabilised by a neutron flow for greater stability – this greatly enhances their damage potential.
It's magical tech, but still some form of laser.

Hello AnotherDilbert and Sigtrygg,

Thank you both for your replies.

MgT has somehow been able to built a laser that manipulates a wavelength of light the produces a neutron ray, while TNE FF&S is only capable of manipulating wavelengths of light to create infrared to gamma rays. I would have preferred sticking with a laser using gamma rays, but I can live with a neutron laser even if I do not have any idea how a wavelength of light can be manipulated to give off neutron rays.

Jules Verne's power source for his Nautilus in '20,000 Leagues Under The Sea' was technobabble when the book was published. Of course his power source was much less deadly than what we have today.

Again thank you for the comments.

You know that all subatomic particle interactions are reversible. Every subatomic particle has its antiparticle and the neutron is no exception. When a neutron collides with an anti-neutron, it roduces gamma rays. If you reverse this interaction then gamma rays can produce an neutron-anti neutron particle pair. Neutrons are made out of quarks who's charges cancel out, and antineutron is made up of quarks that have the opposite charges as the quarks which make up the neutron.

Thank you for adding to my knowledge since I apparently slept through that part of my Physics 101 class or forgot about the process since time has passed, how much I won't say ;-).
