What is the significance of the MEA having a kill score of 6? In the open they die when hit on a 4 right?

Right, but even in cover the kill score doesn't matter. The kill score should just be a -, because they die with one hit no matter what, hit or kill.

It's basically futureproofing. If they only had hit and no kill score, then there'd be confusion if a later addition came out that granted them (and PLA infantry) a save.

There would be the possibility of a future supplement allowing some equipment that gives armour saves.
