Matt's Blog: Ringing the Call to Arms

Okay, Matt, you got me interested. I'll finish the Vree in the basement this week and cross my fingers.

Oh, by the way, the new rule book is actually pretty well done. I don't mind the soft cover.

I'm just thinking of seeling my soul to some dark and sinister power and its associates to get to know more

O RLY?

Now you've piqued my interest Matt....

Tell me all!!!!

(and for the record, I too like the redone rulebooks with the soft backs, I did prefer the hardack covers overall but I far prefer the 'Rulebook doesnt fall apart or crinkle horribly' aspect of these ones ;) I assume P&P will be printed/bound in a similar manner?)

I prefer mine... on my PSP

You can if you get a PDF->JPG converter... view the pages as images ;)
It works surprisingly well, you can zoom and move around, and use left and right shoulder buttons to go to next/prev page. My rules and fleet books weigh in at 11 and 14MB in JPG.

not a bad idea.... (though it would still be nicer if sony just did a firmware update to let you view PDF's directly :(. Will have to look into that anyway, theres loads of PDFs I'd love to be able to read away from my computer (and I dont have a laptop currently and dont intend to buy another one any time soon :P)

I have a similar viewer for my NDS :D :D

I do remember a post about negotiations with another established mini producer that they were negotiating with... though Matt did say that it would take longer then this to get things sorted out... could it be that negotiations went better then expected? Perhaps the large amount of minis they would need made the Producer drool (not just B5, but Emergence, SST, BF:EVO too) (though this has to be a "maybe with a healthy dose of "Ya Right"") .

I have lost all faith in Mongoose being able to keep its word. I lost track of how long it's been since I ordered my miniatures, I can barely remember the details of driving down to my game store with a pen and paper in my hand, call my gaming group and asking them if they want to get into the last minute deal.

I have sent my 8th e-mail to Alex Fennell, who has been quite good at returning my e-mails in a timely manner. I do not believe he is giving me bad information, he really doesn't know when my order will come. He says that it will come out, no matter what. That part I don't believe. I go on the forums and see people still haven't got their miniatures.

I personally can't believe I'm paying premium price for this. My friend was able to, 2 months after placing my MGP order, order a laptop computer with import parts from China, have it built, sent to our place, and have it paid off already. And that was a computer.

I hardly see how comparing a device that is in something like 3 out of every 4 homes in the United States, many with multiple, and is manufactured by thousands of different companies around the world has any sort of comparison to gaming miniatures manufactured by a single company in the UK.

I go to the forums and see people that HAVE recieved their minis as well as ones that haven't. I put in an order with Hobby Box just the other day, since they recieved their final end of the line shipment.

Clearly you don't understand the labor and time it takes to build a computer to China, send it to US, clear customs, and arrive here. It should pale in comparison to how fast a miniatures company can get an order out, not the other way around.

Clearly you don't understand the labour and time involved in building a computer if you think that it's anywhere near a lengthy task, even for someone who doesn't run a computer business. About the only step which may cause problems is the customs I guess*. Compare this with a publishing company having a temporary flood of orders for models many times their capacity.

* If only because you get some people who haven't realised the cold war is over. Someone should probably point out to them that the latest Big Thing is called "The War On Terra".

The problem isn't the time and labour involved. It is the sheer number of miniatures that were ordered.

Using the laptop analogy, if the company normally makes 100 laptops a month and is suddenly swamped with 2000 orders, how long will it take to get them made?
