Matt, How are sales now?

Mongoose
Now that everyone is trying to buy their fleets before they're gone, I'd be curious to hear from Matt how sales are going. I'm sure they're good, but has the volume and interest swayed you into rethinking your fateful decision to kill the miniatures?

Agreed, but I'm hoping for some good signs from the whole experience. I have a buddy newly interested in the game and don't know what to tell him.

Because panic buying is not a good case to build a business stategy on....
Agreed.
I wish it was otherwise.

And remember gamers: Ebay still has B5 Wars models years after AOG closed.
So there will be always ACTA models about there for years.

I'd go with

It s a great fun game - the minatures are stopping son but there are plenty of ships out there to buy even if they are not MGP - thre are still AOG ships on sale I believe and outhers make "similar" ones

Ask him to try it - if he likes it, he can buy and keep playing - we still play various games that are no longer being produced / supported - got out Block Mania not so long ago 8) . Support will diminish offically but there is a lot of good stuff on the fourm and much more to come - The Dilgar war epic will be something worth waiting for................!!!

We at our club now have more ACTA players than ever before - bizarely! :D

Tell him he still has a fortnight to buy a bit of a fleet. It's not like lead goes off. And the game is still one of the very best out there.

I asked Matt this last weekend and suffice to say, their sales have surpassed all expectations by quite a long way!

I figured this was the case. I only hope this will move them to reconsider their decision and/or find another way to get these wonderful models to us fantastic gamers.

Let's just say, hypothetically speaking, that the sales were high enough to reconsider not closing down the foundry - at least for the time being.

Like many, I dropped a lot more cash on ACTA miniatures since the announcement of the foundry closing than I had planned on spending in the short term (though long term it would've evened out). I've got probably one good sized order left in me, and then I'm done.

If Mongoose did decide to keep the foundry going, and producing ACTA miniatures, they would open themselves up to accusations of "scaremongering" to drive up sales. The nett effect of this would likely be to drive customers away from Mongoose products full stop as many people would feel cheated by the whole affair.

I do hope that the increased sales have given Mongoose a leg up again, since all the redundancies made it look like cash flow was a serious problem.

Regards,

Dave

Okay so at least it has shown Mongoose the popularity of the game or something. It may encourage them to go again in a year as was mentioned earlier. No scaremongering then if the go again in 2009 - just following the reorganization plan.

This is exactly what I'm hoping for - particularly in combination with the new game Mongoose are doing (I don't know what this is yet), they have a fair possibility of restarting miniatures production sometime in 2009.

Although another way to look at it could be that this panic buy phase was so successful because most people have now bought most of what they want. If that's the case, there aren't as many sales to make if/when they restart.
Whilst it may not be the most popular approach with us current players, I suspect that a more successful way to restart production would be to relaunch a range of new sculpts, possibly in a different scale. This would possibly lead to not only new sales, but sales from old players who want to replace their old figures.

the moulds from AOG have been showing their age for quite a while now... question is; would restarting the ACTA minis be worth it when factoring in the possible cost of making new masters for a lot of the minis?

or would they just sideline the game and focus on their new one?

Perhaps the success of the closing down sale could lead Mongoose to having 1 month sales windows every year.

Place your orders and when we have got enough, we will open up the foundry to fill them. be quick or miss out!!! :?

They coukd simply use the down time to remaster the molds and then start things back up with the new game, SST and ACTA. Seems like a sound business plan to me.
