Map of Karlyl/ Hunters of Granbretan

Agonovos

Mongoose
Hello, next Friday I will run the HAWKMOON-Scenario "Hunters of Granbretan ".
My Question: is somebody here who played it and will give me some good Suggestions about his gaming-experienced.
And my Main-Request: have somebody use an Map for the Player so they can better plan their Actions and judge their Situation?

It looks better to have it for the Players as to keep it through a vague Description, because there will be some Gametime before the Scenario starts: it will give my Players Time to buy some Siege-Weapons or Sorcerous Things for their Noblehouse and explore "Granbretans Might" over France and should give them unwary feelings about the silver Bridge (none of them read the Novels).
A Map looks fair so they can familiarize with the Location and I guess the desperation will be greater when they are trapped.

So when somebody have an Map or an good Source to Download it i will be very grateful! :)

Hmmmmm, really no One around who mastered this Scenario? No One who have some Tips and Hints to share with me to spice up the Game next Friday?
No HAWKMOON-Fans/Gamers around? It is an very cool Setting (surely just my Opinion) and i will be sad when it found no interest by the Fans.
Also i will be glad about every Comment.

Hello Agonovos, I don't get on these boards as often as I used to so its taken me a while to respond to you.
I had a good time running this adventure though it did take a little work. I thought that the backstory of Risidious Fairhaven and his reason for making off with the artefact were weak.
I ran it that Risidious was a friend and confidante of Bowgentle in the Kamarg.Upon discovering said artefact he determined to spirit it away to safety.
The PC's were spies employed by Bowgentle to check into the disappearance of his old friend and to seek knowledge of events in nearby Normandia, paricularly concerning persistent rumours that the Lady Adrienne had escaped the clutches of Granbretan. If they could locate the whereabouts of either they were to try to get them to safety, first in the city of Parye and then eventually to the Kamarg itself.
Hope these comments are of use to you. Enjoy your game. :)

Karlyl is presumably Carlisle in Cumbria? Why not start by having a look at the lay-out of Carlisle on Google Earth?

djd,Its actually "Karlye" and it represents the port of Calais in northern France.
It appears to be a black marketeers heaven as it sits on the French side of the Silver Bridge.
By the way, Agonovos, remember that this scenario is for experienced-veteran level characters. If your characters are fresh onto their sheets the Bull Order Shocktroopers are gonna waste their asses.

Doh! Sorry about that. Haven't picked up my Hawkmoon stuff in a long while. Ironically it was the dreadful maps that put me off it!

Ahh thanks for the Inspirations tarkhan bey!

Yeah my Players are "Seasoned" and are Messengers of the Baron of Aachen (One Noble with Magic, one Animal-Trainer with Wolfshounds and ugly Appearance, one female Knight, one Mercanery and a Doctor/Scholar. Their aim is to gather Information and to buy mighty Weapons for their House.
I will use your Idea and make Risidious to an Spy of Bowgentle and that he want to bring the Weapon to the Carmarg. Very Cool and introduce Count Brass Country into the Game.
I like the Scenario, but i´m stay to your Opinion: it need some work to make it running smoothley.

About the Bull Warriors: yeah they should fear this Guys and I guess that they try a smarter Option instead of fighting them. I hope their will be much Freeform and Despatation where the drawings of the Swords will be the last Action.

Didn´t your Player miss a Map to show and imagine their Plans?

They didn't really miss the maps Agonovos. I tend only to bother with immediate locale maps anyway. None of my players have ever been to Calais(except for passing through it) so I just played fast and loose and assumed that it would have all the normal quarters and areas that any other pseudo mediaeval/renaissance port city would have.

There is a post further down by Mage that lists my players and their backgrounds(if you are interested).

BTW, how did your game go? :)

Hmm - after finished my Text it seems long. When i wrote to much excuse me and make advises to improve. Especialy for Typing-Errors and bad speaking- as an inhabitant of pre Tragic Europe i luck on Routine in using English/Granbretan-Tongue

Hi Guys, the game went good.
It needs much modifications, the cause for my group to visit Carlyl was to buy weapons (Flamelances, Artellerie Canons and so on).

They walked around, and were afraid of the Silver Bridge, the flying Battlethings (Ornithopter) and the great metall Ships of Granbretan. They are unsure and a littel afraid of the Might of Granbretan.

Some of them suggest there House should seek an an Alliance, but the others are unsure cause of the cruelty. They spoke with many Guys and realised that the Normania is Occupied by Granbretan.

One female Knight of the Group make an Affair with an Noble of one of the fivth mighty Houses of France - indeed the Noble is desperades cause his House is divided throug the Precence of Granbretan and guessed to her that the South of France never will win again the Beasts. She offered Love, Alliance and they shared some Hours.
My Group managed to buy theire Weapons (Grenades with Anthrax in an astounding Quality and Quantiet, 50 Flamelances and 8 Cannons from Amerek -say the Merchant who sold them- called "O´ama" with Walltearing Ammunition".

----HERE STARTS THE SCENARO ITSELF-----
Then the Ornithopter appears and bring the Message of Curflew.
My Group send their Weapons of the Way in last Minute but stayes cause a Spy suggest that something big will going on.
And the female Knight met Risidious who said he were an Spy from there House AND the Carmarg. The Knight takes Gauntlet and Magistrate and then the Bull and Guard are apperead.
This was tricky to Master: the Knight went to the Meeting, secretly another SC follows her. The other stay in to talk with others and here strange Rumours: 3 fable Musocvites were in Carlyle, an Granbretan with Snake Mask is on the Way to meet them and so one.
So the Guys in the Inn were attacked by the Bull and the Guys outside try to save Risidois with no success.
Then they escpaped, everybody separate in the Night of Carlyle.
So I must play everybody separatly, but use Fate-Checks and Magistrate to meet each other in the Morning after some dramatic fleds from Shocktrooper and Blackmarket-Bosses. No one tried to Battle the "mountains of metall" as i described the Bull-Warriors.
In the Morning they watches the shocking execution of the Citiciens inclusive their Guide throug the Canalisation. But there see no other Way and are really desperated, and the female Knigt can´t put of the Gauntlet of Fate, they enteres the Canalisation.

Here we break cause the Driver of my Players were tired.
The mood of the Scenario is very good but you have to keep the pressure and try to give them many ways to decide in the Situations.
Hint: i gooled for typical France Names and made a List so i have for many improvied Encounters a tasty Name.

In a few weeks we will continue, when somebody interested i will continue my "Game-Report".

Sounds good Agonovos. Keep on posting the details of the adventure. I like to read of other peoples experiences. :)

I will report gladly, we will continue 3 October. I guess we will finish the Scenario early enough so i have to prepare the next One to start.
Have somebody played own Adventures with Consequences of "Hunters"? For an Example: have your Group decided to keep the Sword Magistrat and the Hand of Fate?
I have Ideas of my own, but Inspirations are always welcome :)

"Potential Spoilers below"

Glad to hear that you are gonna continue to keep us updated Agonovos. 8) I would suggest that you consider the 4 Part S&P adventure, "The Ichthus of Life".
It took a little work, but once adjusted was smooth as silk to run. It has everything.

Following the events of "Hunters of Granbretan", the artefact had chosen Cahan O'Colgan as its wielder. The characters escaped Karlye to the town of Alencon where they were tasked by the Marshall d'Alencon to escort his niece, the Lady Adrienne, to Parye and relative safety.
Alencon was under siege by an army of Granbretanners under the Wolf Constable Balthus Dire,Count of the Seven Sisters and a mutant horde led by King Alrous Le Sanguine of Orleans.
Following the defeat of Normandia at the siege of Rouen,Adrienne had escaped from the city. The Foxmask Constable, Odius Alcardy, had been tasked with apprehending her but once among the unprotected peasants of Normandia they had had begun to loot and pillage. Adrienne had reached safety and the Alcardy, fearing the King Emperor's punishment for his failure, fled to southern France. This is important for the scenario as it explains how Alcardy falls in with the Order of Black Knights.
The characters escape to Parye with the Lady Adrienne and then head for the Kamarg to present their findings to Bowgentle.
Just south of Valence, they encounter the Frenchmen returning from the middle east as described in part 1. In my version they are in the service of Duke Jewelard of Normandia and were sent to Persia to seek sorcerous means to oppose the Beastmask aggressors. Upon discovering that Normandia is fallen and Duke Jewelard dead, they tell the PC's the story of the Ichthus and elect to travel to the Kamarg with them.
The scenario runs as written from this point excepot that I decided that the demonic entity known as Abbasyn the Corruptor was slain by the ancient hero Septimus using the Magistrate of Fate. Count Brass was offered the artefact but refused it, realising that the artefact chooses its own wielder. As would become apparent,Cahan O'Colgan turned out to be the reincarnation of this Septimus. With the defeat of the demon, the artefact disappears, destined to reappear when the time comes to thwart abbasyn in any of his further schemes.
Its a great scenario, plenty of roleplaying opportunity, several fights and a seriously nasty "big bad" at the end. I cannot recommend it highly enough. 8)

Hey tarkhan bey,
that is really great stuff. I will lend the Siege of Alencon and the Escort from you! The female Knight of my Group will go there cause the france Noble need her help - the Knight Maxime she met in Carlyle and she made an OATH to stay to him regardless if his family and wealth destroyed through the Conflikt with the Dark Empire.

I didn´t know every Aspect of the Game & Background: i want that they explore it. So the Consequence of Oath and the cumulation of Fatepoint is for them unclear. Even the Runestaff and so one. I guess it is like the CTHULHU-Game: is much unknown for you so greater is your fun.

About the Ichtus of Life: i read it, but i found the last Part dissappointing. Maybe my Understandig is not good enough and i miss some important things. My Question: the evile Priest take the Ichthus, ride to the grave were the the Demon/old Warrior lie but what then? The Text ends without an satisfing Solution.
Of cause yours Tarkhan is very clever and so good! Will my Group decide to keep Magistrate i will even use your Solution. Wow!
The People of Moongoose should put your Ideas in the Text or in the Dowmload Section so Newcomers can put Hunters & Ichthus together with little work!

Hey Agonovos, you still running Hawkmoon?
Thanks for the previous comments, sorry for not getting around to a reply until now.

Spoiler alert......

I agree with you,the very end of the Ichtus of Life is a bit linear but I don't always see this as a bad thing.
The evil necromancer completes his ritual and the demon Abbasyn is summoned once again into this world. The characters arrive just as the summoning is completed having been delayed by the hypnotised villagers and the remainder of the Guardians of the Black light.
Big fight ensues, Necromancer is slain by his daughter who now sides wth the characters. Demon mangles characters including the wielder of the Magistrate of fate who seems to be the only person who can do more than nick it with their puny human weapons.
Wielder is impaled on the demons huge stone sword. The blood of the descendant of Septimus banishes Abbasyn once again and the Icthus works its healing magic on the surviving characters including the resurrection of wielder of the Magistrate of Fate(which has mysteriously disappeared).
You think its all over but the treacherous Germanian nobleman turns up with his Black Knight Henchmen. Another fight and the Black Knights are put to flight by the timely arrival of Count Brass and a troop of Guardians.
During this melee the girl slips away taking with her, the Ichthus of Life.
Scenario over.

My characters are now taking a short sabbatical at Castle Brass before going off to search for the essence of Joyeuse. 8)

Hey Tarkhan,
yes my Group moved ahead - i adapted yor Ideas! It was an Head over Heels Session - with many Player Actions i didn´t expected.

They fled from Carlyle, the Wielder of Magistrate killed the Leader of the Bulls with an critical and massiv Hit. That was great - it surprises my Gamers very very hard, the two ohter Bull Warrior who laid the Ambush fled.
But a few Minutes ago....
I find the original Inhabitant of the Sewers boring and dissapointing (the typical Dungeon Monsters -Monitor Lizards).
I changed this, and there were a Group of Mutants who were changed by a Serpent Science of Granbretan in the Course of Punishment and the Bulls put them in the Sewers as Guardian for the PC and others who should try this Escape Route. My Gamers with Help of Magistrate take them down as they attacked when the Group opened the hidden Door to the Canalend. In the Battle the Mutans (after two losses) reconnised the Sword and concentrate on the Wielder, still beggging for mercy throug a Blow from Magistrate. They laid down Weapons, and my Gamers had the sad task to understand that this poor Creatures were Humans warped by Granbtretan. Even the Doctor of the Group can´t do anything for them, and no one would do the cruel work of deliverance for the Mutants. But they get the Informantion of the Ambush!

Afte they fled they stumble in the icy November Rain about an Village destroyed by Pigs, and met Knights in the Ruins who searched them.
The Lover of the Wielder asked for help in the besieged City of Alencon!
They went there, see the great Army of Pigs and see the Arriving of an Army of Mutants led by King Alous Le Sanguine (a fat Man driving an Metal-Carriage. King Alous and the Pigs togehther lay an Siege-Ring around Alencon. Withi the City it remebered my Gamers on the Situation in their first Adventure - a Castle in the Eiffle besieged by Agonovos and his Mutants.
They Decided to fled with Lady Adrienne to Parry, from there to help here against the North of France and the Dark Empire.
As they here that Alencon got magic Poitions for Healing and Battle, bought 3 yeras ago from Agonovos they hurried, hurried in Panic. They see the great Trap that Alencon is indeed!
And the Major of the City (still believing he can stand the Siege of Pigs and Mutants with his Cannons) revealed that he owns an magical Surgeon Table: it can heal/operate four Man at the same Time, bought even from Alencon.
The Gamers pack their Back, look for Warriors for the Outbreak and plan how to save Lady Adrienne - but the Doctor would take a look of the OP-Table in the Dungeon of Alencon. As he opens the Door, he watched in Horror and Surprise as the great Table is running/charging to him/the Open Door - a great Machine with Drillers, Metal Arms, Eyes and Mouhtes using four dead Alecon-Soldiers (who were originally to guard this Table) as Legs:shock:. The Table is an Demon made by Agonovos to open the Citygates (Agonovos had sold this secret to Granbretan).
With this Scene, totally surprose the Player of the Doctor and malicios joy of the other Gamers we finished the Session.

Now I plan the next Game, have somebody of you used the Mass Combat Rules? How they went, and how du you note the Positions of the Units? Do you write them in a Tabelle so everybod could guess were he is?
Are the Rules Hanndy for an tension Scene?

@Agonovos: I use him in my Games as an great Intrigiuer/Plotter who used to be Guest and Aviser to many european Courts. He is an fascinationg Figure, and apperead only briefliy in the Novels. It should maybe the Product of the Actions of my Gamer-Group who led Agonovos in the Eastern Wilderness were he will be to met Hawkmoon.

I will tell more tomorrow.

:D

Hey there Agonovos. I haven't been around for a while so I have only just read this. I hope that your game is still going well for you. I love the idea of Agonovos as a recurring villain in your campaign. A very nice touch.
I am planning to start The Secrets of Tragic Europe campaign in the next few weeks after a bit of a sabbatical.
