Managed to finally get a regular Elric campaign going.

Mongoose
So I finally managed to get an Elric campaign off the ground and ran the first session recently.
Composed of:
A Melnibonean EX master of the Imperial menageries (sort of a hunter type) on the run due to being responsible for a well connected noble being consumed by one of the beats in the said menagerie.
A Shazaarian Sorceror whose lightly retarded brother accidentally killed a child in his village and both aided in escaping by the Melnibonean. The Brother is an NPC.

So only 2 players and an NPC, but my Son is joining in next time with a Mhyrryn.

So anyway, I just did something simple to start with.
They managed to book passage on a Tarkeshite ship, heading towards Raschil (in Filkhar) where I’ll start the campaign for the Cities of the Young kingdoms, Southern continent supplement.
(which I’ve run some of before when running a gaming weekend for some friends and it’s very good).
But to introduce them easily to the way the combat works, I did a small Pan-Tangian raider ship attacked their ship. I kept the Pan-Tangian pirates under-equipped as these are totally new players to the system.

I did some manoeuvring rolls of the Tarkeshite vs the Pan-Tangian ship to start with but it ended up in a Pan-Tangian boarding action.

It went well, just a few injuries, no major wounds, although there was a close call with a bellyshot with a greatsword at one stage, luckily the Pirate captain rolled minimum damage (on an open roll too)

I really love the Legend combat system, it allows for a lot of creativity in combat. There was much charging, pinning, impales, limbs getting chopped off, people getting forced off the side of the ship or into an open hold and all sorts of other stuff that other games just reduce to:
Roll to hit, roll damage, keep doing this until the enemy falls over…

I found the rules were picked up pretty quickly, although I know them well, so it’s good to have at least one person in a group who has thoroughly read and practiced the rules with test sessions. But the comments on the gaming style, combat etc were positive.

We left off with the Ship (and the captured Pan Tang ship) limping to the closest port (Vilmiro) as their ship was damaged and the captured Pantang ship and the resultant reduced crew (as the surviving Pirates were clapped in irons) .

Interesting times ahead pulling in a Lawful nation/City with a Melnibonean present and a Sorceror. Heh.

Still looking for a couple of new players, but it's a start and it's probably better to start with just a couple of players until I'm very familair with running it regularly.

Thanks. Very pleased to get an Elric game off the ground. I by far prefer it to Pathfinder as a game system.

Yes my kids are now Australian Citizens (daughter 9, Son 11) :)
Just waiting for my wife's Australian spouse visa to go through, which will take 4-6 months, then I'll start looking for a job, hopefully with a relocation package. :)

Looking forward to getting over to Oz, I expect to be over there early 2012.

Sounds good Dansk. The Melnibonean should attract a lot of attention in Vilmiro and I would say that most of it would be unwelcome. Is your game pre or post destruction of Immryr? Post destruction, I would say that the locals would be more openly belligerent than pre destruction. They might try to have the characters 'clapped in irons' followed by a 'fair trial' and execution. Pre destruction they are likely to be verbally hostile but not much else, after all, who knows what action the Dragon Isle might take if one of it's subjects was harmed. Of course, even pre destruction there will be Lawful fanatics, especially in Vilmir.
I look forward to reading more.

Pre-fall of Imryrr. Elric is taking his "Year out" in the Young Kingdoms and Yyrkoon is the regent on the ruby Throne.
These are new players so I'm going to go a bit easy on them (Well Easy-ish for Elric :D ) at first, they haven't read the Elric novels, although I have encouraged them to.

I find that while it doesn't make the game any less enjoyable, it can slow down a little if the players ask for more information on a particular topic. Recommending them to reading the saga is a good move, I've tried that with my group, but they're just happy to play.

Sounds great fun - look forward to hearing more:) The master of the Mengeinere is a nice idea :)

I am looking to start a new campaign soon but have a few changes to allow the players to eveolve the story a bit more:

Elric has gone off on his travels, but a more assertive Empress Cymoril holds the thone in his abscence having had her troublesome brother quietly eliminated. The players will be involved in a adventure involving other realms that should damn or save the Young Kingdoms and/or the Dreaming City :)

Yeah I thought that was cool, the player came up with that background for his character.

That should be interesting, sort of opens up things a bit more.
I'm keeping the storyline up until now as canon, but anything could happen from here.
The young kingdoms is not necessarily doomed to destruction.

I'm thinking about using one of Loz' alternative timelines, the one in which Yrkoon becomes Emperor. At the moment my players have reached Ryfel in what is basically a mash up of 'Of Promises Broken' and a story arc for the first of my characters around his wealthy family and the machinations of a Chaos cult. I intend to foreshadow 'She dreams of Empires' while the characters are in Ryfel. They will encounter a Pan Tangian sorceror and his two henchmen. The Pan Tangian seeks to mount an expedition into the dead hills in search of 'The Octagon of Chaos'. Here, he believes, he will find an enchanted artefact(The Aether Glass).
Events will, of course, conspire that the pc's will be unable to accompany him but that they will recognize him during 'She Dreams of Empires' which will form part of the story arc surrounding the Myyrhyn character-Annariel and his eventual redemption.
