Loren Wiseman in copyright dispute

Hello all, I am forwarding a post on the Steve Jackson Games forum for your info (in the hope that someone may be able to help here)
-------------------------------------------------------------------

FROM LOREN K. WISEMAN

A photograph of me was posted to the Wiki article on me on Wikipedia

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Loren_Wiseman.jpg.

Someone named "AmasaJoslin" (whoever that actually is) claims to be the holder of the copyright to this photograph.

I own the IP rights to this photograph. While I do not object to it being posted on the Wiki site, and am willing to allow it to be used under the terms of the Gnutella license noted there, I must insist that my ownership of the IP rights be noted. "AmasaJoslin" has given away something that is not his/hers to give.

If "AmasaJoslin" is on this board, or is known to anyone on this board, I ask that he/she get in contact with WikiPedia and make the appropriate corrections. Please spread this message to other boards in an attempt to get the news out.

Make this clear: I don't want to punish whoever uploaded the photo. I merely wish to have _my_ ownership of the IP rights acknowledged.

Thanks. This photo means a great deal to me, depicting as it does the fulfillment of one of my greatest wishes.

Wikipedia has already reacted and added that the IP of the image is dispu-
ted, I would expect them to contact "AmasaJoslin" very soon to clarify the
IP ownership of the image.

I thought that was just Loren editing the article to make his dispute known. I'd be very surprised if Wiki acted at all, least wise that swiftly.

It could well have been someone else, but I would not expect Loren to
write of himself in the third person.

If an image of LKW is posted on Wiki and there are no visitors to click on it, does any of this really matter? Because it's becoming SPAM now on the forums. Let LKW go "Waah!" to Wiki on his own.

And this helped how?

Loren is trying to find the wiki poster who placed and claimed the images, rightly presuming they are part of the community. He originally posted only on the GURPS Traveller forum iirc. Others have spread that post to other Traveller forums for more coverage. All good imo. If the owners of MgT and this forum think it out of place they are free (and well within their rights) to delete it. Report the thread if you feel strongly about it.

Loren's intent is not to harass the person as I understand it, but to get this straightened out. Wiki themselves are unlikely to be helpful, probably just issuing standard reply form letters to any inquiry "We are investigating your report. Unfortunately we can't detail any findings for privacy reasons. yada yada yada... " Those types of replies inspire zero confidence in me that anything will actually be done.

When was the last time you contributed anything to this forum? Loren has contributed too much to the game that this forum covers that there isn't space enough to list it all.

Report this thread if you feel that strongly about it.
