Loaded vs. Unloaded M-ratings

Irrelevant. The Drives change their PERFORMANCE & how the ship MOVES based on load/mass. In MGT they do NOT. What exactly don't you understand about that?

"What exactly"?

I'm afraid you didn't leave the conversation, you never entered it.

And yet I answered the OPs question on page 1, correctly and fully, for Mongoose Traveller. The physics of an in-game tool that breaks physics is irrelevant, esoteric for 90% of the player base, and, as should be obvious to you by now, highly divisive.

Go back up page 7 a little and read crazycat's post. Realize that it applies directly to your behavior. If the damage you are doing to this community doesn't bother you then, by all means, keep swinging away.

Which is pretty much why the reactionless drive thruster plate explanation is less than satisfactory.

It wasn't very good when DGP came up with it and it remains a pretty useless explanation for how reaction less thrusters tie in with canon.

The artificial gravity well is actually a better explanation, as is making the manoeuvre drive a variant of the Alcubierre warp drive.

Mind you, if you're going to use warp drive, might be easiest to just assume ships move under m-drive like stutterwarp ships in 2300... goodbye complex vectors, hello simple movement point system (2 hexes/turn times the m-drive number, say).

Yup, I wonderer how the Third Imperium setting would look with a stutter warp drive instead of a maneuver drive/jump rive combo.

Or even a stutter warp for maneuver an keep jump for FTL.

I'm probably in the minority in liking the switch to HEPlaR for TNE, but then I'd already been using the design rules in Hard Times for low tech fusion rockets. I doubt if I' have minded TNE switching to stutter warp instead - IIRC this was actually being discussed by GDW at the time.
