Lifting Things in Traveller

There really is no additional specific mechanic needed or applicable enough in the majority of situations - its just difficulty level or situational DMs to other mechanics (combat, repair, etc.).

Climbing a ladder with no hands free is quite possible - I've done it.

One could use elbows, or just press body against ladder and push with legs. In MgT, this is just a task check - very difficult probably. With one hand perhaps just difficult. Taking into account the mass, its bulk, how it is 'carried' - difficulty changes.

MEDIC !

Stop shouting I'm here. Ok I have one casualty, lying on his back next to a fallen ladder. Seesm to have a cinder block embeded in his skull. Ok sir what happened.

Well doctor its like this

"Both the victim and the perpetrator obviously came from
Central America, Watson, and I have no doubt that they
were descendants of the ancient Maya. The Maya killed a
man involved in an adulterous affair by dropping a stone
on his head from a great height, precisely as it happened
to this poor fellow. I wrote an article about this custom for
the magazine of the Royal Forensic Society, and I am sur-
prised that you did not remember it at once, Watson."

[Oops, wrong forum - I really should not visit a Traveller
forum while working on a Call of Cthulhu setting ...]

Ah, but well, it is quite an elementary deduction that the RAW on Encumbrance is flawed...
