Check this ship out. Explorer

That looks quite a lot like the classic Star Wars Correllian Corvette, a fave of wealthy pirates and mercenaries everywhere...

"Quite a lot"? Nah.

Star Wars is all about the styling, and only a little about the general shape. That great honking collection of engine tubes on the back end of a Correlian Corvette and the "beer-barrel" nose are Star Wars. Bridge at the front and a wide back end are not.

MOCpagesis a site dedicated to Lego.

All I have to say is OH MY!

I am starting to think I will be writing a Lego extension for Traveller....

A lego based SSD for ship combat is bouncing around my mind.

I wanna see someone put together either a Suileman or Beowulf. Not a little dinky mini-ship. No, I want to see one that has an interior that your minifigures can "walk" around in.

That would be impressive.

(BTW, I rank that "exploration" ship at the top in that class of efforts. It is completely built at "minifig" scale. That is awesome!)

While some Mini-Fig scale ships might get done in the future, my gig is that I am building terrain for 15mm figures.

With that in mind I am looking to build vehicles in the same scale.

Though you are right the Mini-Fig stuff is awesome....

What Lego sets are these ship builders getting their parts from?
All of them?

Seriously, most of them are probably using a combinations of methods -

- they are buying multiple copies of sets they like
- they are buying up any old, used LEGO collection they run across
- they are buying specific pieces in bulk through LEGO's Pick A Brick service
- they are trading and buying specific pieces on websites like Bricklink.com

You missed a big source Ebay.

And Lego store have a wall across the back with bins of individual bricks.

Also if y'all are like me I have a Lego collection that spans 40 years. I keep finding veins of Lego in my vast collection of junk.

Actually, I did say "websites like..." - I meant to put eBay in there with Bricklink as well, but a customer called and distracted me.

That's basically the same thing as the LEGO Pick a Brick service. Besides, not all of these guys have a LEGO store nearby, and even if they do, not all the LEGO stores have the selection of pieces to be worth it. FREX, the one here in Denver has two rotating "towers" where they have a selection of about 32 different pieces - fairly worthless unless you happen to need the specific pieces they have.

Darned Customers......

Yep, I understand that, I just trolled Ebay last night for Lego for the very 1st time... Shocking, but it being Ebay one needs to be aware of what the overall market looks like so one can weed by price...

That is true of the wall as well, but if it has the part you need in bulk is about the cheapest way to acquire them, depending on how the parts fits into the plastic cup.... Right now it is for me 2x2 flat tiles in color other than red or yellow.

Ok how about this for a modular cutter.

I'd guess that looks more in the 100 dton size range, than just the 50 dton size range. (Same function as the Modular Cutter, just twice as big.)

I'll probably be passing the URL of this thread to a friend's son, who has a lot of the necessary Lego. He might well appreciate the new starship designs.

Has anyone come up with a good way to do Battle Dress yet or worked out a good stud to range conversion?
