Legends of Lone Wolf

Mongoose
I know Mongoose Publishing is still in the midst of re-releasing the entire Lone Wolf gamebook series, but it would be difficult to avoid not re-releasing the Legends of Lone Wolf series. I had purchased the first book of this series, Eclipse of the Kai, retelling and expanding on the backdrop of Lone Wolf that which is Magnamund. I thought it was a fantastic read as it really started filling in the motives and various side stories of the characters that were presented throughout the gamebook series.

Does Mongoose have any intention on republishing this very fine novelization of the world that Joe Dever game us? And for that matter, what about the World of Lone Wolf gamebooks?

From what I understand the License to those books is held by an other publisher, who is holding them in their "Out of Print Catalog", don't know how much it would cost Mongoose to get those rights, but I think it's a bit more than the projected return on the investment.

Plus, those books were written not by Dever alone, but in tandem with another author. Hence there are several points of difference in the canon, which might need ironing out before it can be republished.

Actually, the books are getting republished by the other pint company soon. Or rather, a new company that has taken over the rights. The announcement should be further down on this forum, or if not on TotS and PA.

I am now running dangerously close to late for work

Interesting...dark quest books notes the first omnibus of the legends of lone wolf as being 1/2010, although its still listed in their forthcoming books. Hmmm...maybe I'll just have to try and order it!

Yeah I saw that - awful cover art too! Ok so some of the original artwork was ... odd, but that's definately aimed at kids!

I think you can buy the pdfs direct from Paul Grant's website.

Certainly if Mongoose were able to get the rights, the books would need to have another shot at being edited. I like the Legends series, but the continuity in them is poor, especially with regards Vashna and the Maakengorge.

Also the latter books were not so good, partially I understand due to Red Fox's interferrance. This could be changed - especially the whole Kezoor / Banedon thing which, frankly, is pointless.

Finally, it would be good to see the series finished - at least up to the end of the Magnakai series. The books were really strong upto about book 10 I think. Books 11 and 12 sucked - still readable, but that's about it. They made an excellent use of Vonotar, used Alyss way too much, and generally portrayed the Darklords really well - Books 5 and 6 are really strong stories (as are Books 1 -4). 7 to 9 are reasonable with a return to form in Book 10.

So there's my potted views on the Legends series! If Mongoose ever do get the rights to them then a bit of rewriting all over to get the canon correct, a bit of editing on the final two books and then maybe writing to the end of the Magnakai series please!

I know a lot of folks don't like it but I'd like to see an other book told from the Lorry drivers perspective.

personally I put all the books down to that, thus explaining why the continuity is a bit off and why it doesn't entirely match up with the canon, because it's however many years down the track and folks are siting around telling the Legends of Lone Wolf to each other.
