Leatherene Coat and Hat

Hey,

So, the Stix brothers wear Leatherene trenchcoats and leatherene hats for armour, and end up with a total of Protection 8. Anyone have any thoughts on what individual protection ratings these items possess? My guess is that the Leatherene Hat provides 2 (like an open helmet), and the Leatherene Coat provides 6 because even though it lacks the likes of the thick shoulder pads, it provides a lot of bodily coverage (both shoulders, the chest, abdomen, arms and upper arms, thighs and knees). Just got to work out the likely costs and weights now as well, I suppose. Loz, did you have values for these handy? The coat in particular would have to be expensive enough to ensure it's not necesarily a more obvious purchase to make than say, a leatherene sash pad and arm pad combo.

Yeah those trench coats looked heavy maybe 5 or 6kg, cost maybe 2000cr.... it will be interesting to see if Loz had these figured or just eyeballed it.

Cr2,000 seems about right (with a 6kg mass). I have a WW1 cavalry coat made from waterproofed canvas and that weighs 5.5kg.

You probably get a 15% discount if you buy them in threes.

The hat is likely lighter than a standard open helmet, and obviously more stylish,so I'd go with Protection 2, 600 cr., 0.25 kg.

For the coat I'd also note: Equipped with two exterior pockets and one interior pocket.

LOL the thought of those three walking into a Burtons looking for discount...Bloodbath!

Tales of the Doghouse in Progs 578 and 579 also show a leatherene poncho (the only Tales of the Doghouse strips worth a damn, imo), and several sleeveless leatherene jackets with padded shoulders also feature. I'll whip 'em up later. Might even put 'em together as another possible S&P article along with other gear/vehicles from the S/D comics not covered in the supplement.

Some of armour seems to stack up to a level where its as good as Hi-Tek battle-armour. A lot of characters are easily knife and fist proof, though such brawling is a staple of the genre.
My current house rule is to halve the SD armour, rounding up.
