LBH Paints again: The Second fleet takes form

Well lastnight and tonight I got the fighter bases double coated in black spray and got the fighters one coat on both sides, second coat to come later.

Looking to what varnish to use for this fleet, the Army Painter stuff seems a little too matt, might get some GW Purity Seal and try that one one Darius of the new fleet for comparison, and then decide which I prefer, though it might be too shiny.

ANy suggestions/advice?

I recommend humbrol satin spray varnish.

Can't thinkn of anywhere local that sells that.

Can anyone say anything for or against Army Painter stuff or GW Purity Seal?

If the GW stuff is rubbish I won't bother even getting some to try on a Galliot to compare to my Army Painter varnished ones.

I find the GW one doesn't leave a smooth finish. Army painter matt is very matt - it is good for removing the shine after dipping.

Hmm, maybe worth getting some GW and trying it on one ship and maybe a couple of fighter bases for comparison.

Army painter's process is based around dipping so I'm sure it's good at taking thatshine off. But it's what I had when I started painting and it does it's job well enough.

If I try the GW stuff and don't like it, I'll do the rest in AP Matt stuff, hence trying the GW on a Galliot, I'm not overly fond of those ships ;)

Don't hesitate to use an old brush and paint on Vallejo gloss varnish and then even it out with a cost of vallejo matt varnish.

Don't think my brush skills are up to that yet, picked up some GW purity seal today, will see how that looks on a couple of fighter bases and a Darius or 2.

Well I got ythe first grey coat on the minis today.

While I was doing that I noticed some 'battle damage' on the Vlad. An accident whilst in Spacedock (The wheelie bin I was using as a table the other week whilst basecoating it blew over) has put a ding in the lower starboard leading edge, looks quite realistic if I do say so myself, I'll always be able to tell them apart now...

Onwards, pity I couldn't get the Osprey started today.

Since my last post I ghot the second grey coat and 2 white coats on the minis.

Tonight I did the blue detailing on the 2 Scouts, 2 Galliots and 4 frigates.

This fleet has different designs from the other thus far.

I'm dreading doing the 3 dozen fighters I have. Compared to that the Dread and 2 destroyers will be easy.

Well I'm focussing on touch ups from the first fleet and getting what I need done for the tourney.

THe Malcolm, Dreadnought and fighters are on hold.

Testing GW purity seal on a new Galliot, looks better than Army Painter stuff, had to touch up some first fleet and revarnish them with the AP stuff, really dulls down the white, I think I'll use the remaining AP stuff for fighter bases and use GW Purity seal rom here on out now.
