KOTJ IV at Kublacon 2008 - May 23-26 Burlingame, CA

I don't have eny experience with them in 2nd edition. I will say that the Gaim will not be allowed as a fleet, as an ally, or as part of a LONAW combined fleet. I have heard that they are due for a new fleet list next month, but I don't think that's going to provide enough time for general player analysis to see if they're still broke or not.

You can see the obvious flaws in them just by reading the fleet entry many a player says. And I can agree, the new list is due in the next S&P I can't wait to read it. I hope there much improved as one of are gamers uses them.

sorry the tournament outline is taking a little long, it will be a nice looking document when I'm done though. I'm about 3/4 of the way done with it I think.

Chern,
A couple of clairifications:

Is round 2 supposed to have a time limit of 2.5 hours? It shows 1.5 hours right now.

Does "No Ancients" mean no Shadows or Vorlons? Or just the Ancient ships (which would cost 16 Raid anyway...)

Do fighter wings count as a Patrol point as opposed to the useal 1 point?

Also, I reccomend that fleet composition scores be made at the begining of the match instead of after each battle.

the schedule has it correct at 2.5 hours...I'll fix the doc when I get home today. thanks for pointing that out.

just the ancient ships. I try to specify by fleet name.

a wing's worth of fighters count as a patrol point. You can't lose more points than you bought independant wings for though.

example:
you have an omega with 4 auroras and an independant wing of auroras for a total of 8 auroras. If you lose any 4 auroras, you give up a patrol's worth of VP. You don't give up any VP for losing the other 4 since they're assumed to come from the ship.
you have an omega with 4 thunderbolts and a wing of 4 auroras. if you lose the 4 auroras you give up the patrol VP. If you lose the thunderbolts you give up no VP.

in this manner you don't have to worry about which fighter came from which ship and which fighter came from a wing, if they happen to be identical.

partial credit is given for wing kills as well. if you destroy 3/4 (or all but 1, whichever is greater) you get credit as if you had crippled a patrol ship.

my reason for changing this from the standard VP of one per aux craft is that I don't think its fair to get the same VP for a Thunderbolt as a delta-V, for example. The thunderbolt is a much more dangerous fighter, and the raider player would give up far move VP as his wings are much larger than an EA player's are. I also believe the VP should be tied to the purchase cost. Fighter from a ship cost nothing since you get full points for the ship already.

edit

here's the fixed document

I'm not sure if it was clear on the tournament pack, but any options in your fleet should be listed on your fleet roster. This means:

Admiral Traits
Fighters carried
Missile loads
If you need to use a second line for a ship, go ahead, theres plenty of room.

I found a problem when I got russels entry today, when I updated the entry form I forgot to bring over the Text Boxes for player name and fleet name. Russel has a version of adobe that allows him to update it though so his came though. But, others might not so I've fixed it.

What effect, if any, do damaged and destroyed ships have on subsequent rounds?

none; all ships are available in every round. Remember that the ship with your Admiral on it must be used in round 2 and 3, and is optional in round 1. It must be placed on a Raid PL ship or better, though it doesn't have to be your biggest ship (which is a departure from the standard admiral rules in which it must be on the highest PL ship in the fleet.)

hope to get more entries soon!

Excellent - I think that you should get Claude's list in the not too distant future as well. Any word from Mr. Nicely? Is he in Texas now? I have a couple of other maybes for Kubla from SoCal, it just depends on if they can put togethor the time and funding.

Huh... A while ago, I sent an email to you about my fleet, but I don't know if you got it.

I got your first entry, which was before I put out the tournament pack - that list did not have an admiral in it, which is required for this years tournament. So, I need a new list from you. See if you can use the pdf, but if you can't, you can use the way you did before.

Chern

Hey Chern - I just emailed you Claude's fleet list. He is having some problems with his computer so he asked me to send it up. Hopefully we can convince another socal player or so to come up this year.

Meanwhile, I am already questioning the fleet list that I sent you. It never fails; my mind always wants to tinker...

I got his fleet, thanks !

resubmits are always OK, my primary purpose with the submittals isn't to lock in your fleet choice, its to confirm you're going to attend. If you want to try something out and submit a different fleet, that's fine.

In honor of the upcoming train day (may 10th) I decided to check into rates between LA and SFO...

Amtrak rates go for between $100 and $130 dollars between LA Union Station and Richmond, California, depending on your departure time and route - you can take the San Joaquin, or the Surfliner and teh Capitol Corridors, but you will wind up transferring on a bus at some point either way, but I imagine the surfliner is a better view. At Richmond you transfer to the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) light rail system which with one line transfer gets you to San Francisco International Airport (one way fare $6.40). Kublacon's host hotel runs a courtesy shuttle bus between the airport and the hotel.

I imagine there are other rates depending on where you're coming from or if you prefer flying, but I'm a train buff... 8)

Well, 4 entries so far...still waiting on a bunch from the south bay...please send something soon so I know if I have to make more terrain (space mats!) for the tournament.

Chern

Oh I'm still going, I'm just having a hard time deciding how to squeeze in an Admiral. I might have to change which race I'll bring.

Well I haven't gotten anything from the other gamers in south bay that were indicated to come an compete, either. I have effectively very little time left to get things going for the tournament; Tomorrow and next saturday are the only full days I have left. Sunday I finish up an LG game in vacaville, and due to other commitments I have very few weeknights left. Please tell your buddies that want to come to send in something at least...
