K'kree 1000 ton transport with Improved Full Automation package (+1 DM for all crew skill checks). The ship can transport 3 K'kree small families of up to 24 individuals in size. It can also move about 300 tons cargo and luggage. Unfortunately, even treating the Noble Enclosure as 24 High Passages, the ship it too expensive to make money while having a mortgage. Also, as an automated system with conscious sentients aboard the best it can do for astrogation is -1 DM (-2 DM if someone checks it's calculation and +1 from skill level) but is mostly likely to be a -3 DM.

With a -3 DM even K’Kree are going to think twice about using it.

Which is why I have been arguing in the Automation thread that is so bad! And totally understand Hiver like.
Hivers automation makes more sense since it’s done for very different reasons. If you look at the Hivers careers only manipulator have access to ship skills and then only starfaring and military. While electronics is quite commonplace in the careers and since you can just Remote Opts when controlling fully automated Hivers ships you can see why they go to extremes to make some of their ships fully automated a Hiver with electronic remote opp 2 can run a fully automated ship with little disadvantages especially since Hivers are going to do their best not to get into combat.

So why does it take 10 times the tonnage and 2x the cost of K'kree automation that doesn't suffer from the -4 to begin with. The K'kree often have Remote Ops skill as well. And why doesn't the Hiver system improve with TL? Higher TL K'kree systems can generate +2DMs while the Hivers still suffer the -4.

That's just what they want you to believe!

The K’Kree automation follows the rules of virtual crew which means anything that requires a actual physical presence can not be done by it (it’s software with very little hardware) the Hiver’s Automation can repair the ship and do other things that would require a actual physical presence (it’s equal parts software and hardware) The K’Kree automation is strictly computer automation while the Hivers Automation is both computer and robotic hence the tonnage requirement. A computer can’t patch a hull or repair a jump drive and that’s what the K’Kree use. The Hivers ships with full automation can do these things.

No. It uses the Virtual Crew rules sort of, as a base, but explicitly includes Astrogator, Engineer and Support personnel replacement. The hull space requirements basically cover the physical access needs for them. AoCS1 pg 156, Full Automation.
And if you add robots from the RH, you can do the same thing using Virtual Crew software for no hull tonnage cost at all.
I've been arguing about for a month now and while no one seems to agree with me, I have yet to hear a reason why Hiver tech is so bad that is even supported by the rules.

Engineering is not maintenance which is where I think your missing the point but you still didn’t answer why a Hiver Merchant with are specifically described as not being traveling merchant would use a ship? But you do you I don’t see you actually being open to other opinions on this

Support Personnel is Maintenance as well as Stewards and medics
