K’Kree Invasion?

Mongoose posted this ad on Facebook. It’s for Aliens of Charted Space book 1, but is it hinting at more? Maybe not, but on reflection I think it should be. Charted Space needs a good invasion!

Not only would it turn everything upside down, it would be a great excuse to invite the Aslan in to trade land for fighting what could be their greatest foe!

I seriously do love the K'Kree but they are also a race I kind of leave as "that scary bunch sat over there". Id love to see a full sourcebook for each of the major races that will help bring each of them "to life" further than they already have been.

Hard pass.

The K'kree as written are ridiculous, and the Lords of Thunder campaign should have remained locked in a DGP drawer never to see the light of day.

I said in one of the comments of that post that I would love it if we got something like the Fifth Frontier War where the Lords of Thunder were rampaging through Gateway. The Imperium tries to help by sending support, but can't afford to be directly involved. So the independent states are trying to fight off the K'Kree mostly by themselves.

This side of the map isn't talked about as much, so I think it would be cool to see.

A K'Kree invasion would alter the balance of the game world, which has been so focused on the Zhodani Frontier Wars, the Solomani stalemate.

I think it is an interesting option. When the legions left Romano-Britain, the country was catapulted into a new direction. If there was a serious threat from the K'Kree, just how much Imperial resource would be withdrawn from the Spinward Marches or the Solomani Rim?

It would be wonderful if there was a megagame, freeform, wargame where we could play out the whole of charted space?

Does anyone have a space sim where we could play this?

I think you would see a situation similar to 1116 and the Solomani, Vargr and Aslan would take advantage and start to invade the Imperium.
The Corridor Fleet would certainly have ships assigned to the K’Kree front which the potentially lead to Deneb and the Spinward Marches being caught off from the rest of the Imperium.

If you take a look at the map as a logistician would, that's a loooong way off and the Imperium would have a lot of warning during which they could build ships and activate reserves.

The K'Kree have no realistic invasion route to the Imperium coreward of Khuur, at the rimward end of Ley. Everything coreward of there requires a J5 fleet. The K'kree have to cross eight subsectors, with either diplomatic pressure ("hey there as you know we'll absolutely certainly murder you later for being G'naak but for now would you mind letting us establish a precarious logistics chain across your territory?") or many years of military invasion.

Either way, the Imperium has a lot of warning, and the K'kree have to learn how to operate at the end of a logistics chain as long as their current empire is wide, using their vast, expensive and technologically inferior ships and weapons* against a foe fighting only a few subsectors from their industrial core.

Also, some Vargr would probably launch the odd raid - you can't really talk in sweeping terms about such a diverse jumble of polities - but the Vargr anywhere near the Two Thousand Worlds do not want to see the K'kree dominate. Check out GURPS Traveller: Alien Races 2, for example, for info on how the two races view each other: it's much how you would expect borderline wolves and murderous vegans to view each other. Especially so in the case of the Red Vargr that are found at the Trailing end of the Vargr territory.

*Nominally they're not massively behind the Imperium but they have a far more shallow industrial base. "Most starships operating within K’kree space are built to TL9–11 standards." and "The majority of K’kree worlds are within the TL7 to TL11 range... However, this technological capability refers to the cities. On worlds with a‘shirtsleeve’ environment there will always be a segment of the population living a simpler life on a semi-nomadic basis. These herds make use of advanced technology but cannot produce it." - Both quotes from "Aliens of Charted Space Volume 1".

I would much rather see materials on adventuring in K'kree space or playing K'kree in a campaign than a "K'kree are the coming to kill us" themed story.

Even ignoring the fact that 5FW and Invasion are flooding the market with warstories at the moment, I just think that it would be far more interesting and generally useful to support adventuring in the 2000 worlds or the space on their borders. And material on what is the equivalent of the Droyne sport for the K'kree, in case a player wants to be one and not require everyone to be K'kree (Or be a 4 person 'player character').
