Just curious...

Might belong to South Korea or Taiwan. Can't remember which country it was but one of them was developing a tank that was very similar to a smaller Abrams.

The US Stryker is going to have a version with a turreted 105mm gun by the way. And I read in one of the previews for BF:EVO that the Stryker was one of the future releases.

Check the last response page 1 from msprange:

MSprange never ruled out the Stryker completely, just ruled it out as a future USMC release. Thats ok, the USMC never had them. Its strictly a US Army vehicle. If Mongoose get around to doing the US Army as a force, they might release Stryker's.

Cool but.... what is it? (apart from an MBT obviously).

its an M60 (120s), an export version using an abrams turret, with a M60 chassis :D

So it's basically an abrams. That was of course the original idea of how to make an abrams...looks like it has the huge luggage rack that the MG minis have.

Good point about an urban combat tank Paladin, it'd have to have much heavier armour though to be able to cope with IEDs and other nasties.

When this was originally being put together it was known as the name "Project Caddybag"

I have no idea why Caddybag, but that was was GD was using...

I was watching the news today about the current war going. I saw this odd US tank. it was short and stuby, and the turret looked a bit similar to the Sherman. anyone have an idea? It may have been more of an armored car, but it did have tracks.

That's supposed to be one of those apcs with a heavy gun on it...aren't they meant to be a light attack force idea...ie make vehicles that are light fast and heavy hitting to support mechanised infantry?

That's the one. The Stryker also has ATGM, Mortar, AGL and AA versions and it's armour is somewhere between the M113A3 and a Bradley (closer to the Bradley's).

I'd expect them to appear as part of a US Army force. Reckon the Marines will get LAVs and maybe even EFVs(AAVP amphibian replacement).

That M60/Abrams hybrid is a new one on me. I'll look up the details on the ones I thought it was anyway and post them tomorrow.

Yeah, the army were looking at these for ages. They're awesome.

I was thinking of India's Karna MBT when I saw that M60/120 photo. New it looked familiar. I was wrong anyway :?

That stubby, round-turreted tank Panzer Ace mentioned might well have been a T-55. There's a version named Enigma with reactive armour and better optics which is nearly unrecognisable due to all the extra armour. Iraq also has (had ?) a load of older Chinese designs and Middle-East builds of Chinese/Russian types (TR-77s and such) which look much like T55/62 hulls.

Some of you might find the PC game SPMBT interesting, as much for it's database as the gameplay. It's freeware and developed from the now-defunct Steel Panthers 2 and covers from 1946-2020. It's WW2 version is available too. Google Shrapnel Games.
