Just curious...

What else does the US have in the way of tanks (curently)? I know of 2 other tanks but the went out of service in the 80s and 90s.

Just wondering what we could expect in the future. Maybe one of those trucks with rockets in the back, what were they called?

Should give you starting place by the very least.

But for MBT's I don't think they have more than Abrams. These days countries concentrate more on having just 1 main tank(guess makes logistics easier).

Main armoured vechiles I would expect for USA would be bradley and stryker.

Of course what they are designing for future I'm less familiar with.

The "Rocket Truck" you're thinking of is probably the MLRS (Multiple Launch Rocket System). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MLRS

This is probably too big for the tables we play on...

Except for target to be destroyed. Minimum range probably prohibit's it's use(I would assume MLRS can't be used quite THIS close...) and if it could...Well it would be so powerfull that points cost would go up(ridiculously much if you concider how easily that truck is then destroyed...Say something about heavy weight boxer with glass jaw ).

The M1 is the only main battle tank of the USMC

The Bradley and Stryker are US Army vees not Marine Corps.

USMC will get the LAV and AAAV/EFV

I vaguely remember some interest of the USMC in the Stryker a little while back.

The Sheridan got phased out a while ago, something to do with the Shillelagh missile not being up to spec I think. Last people to use them were the airmobile units. Nowadays the only place you'll see them in action is at the National Training Centre, covered in fibreglass panels, pretending to look like BMP's.

The Marine Corps never had the Sheridan

The last Army battalion of M551 Sheridan - in the 82d Airborne Division - was deactivated shortly after the first gulf war.

There are still some 551s at the NTC (National Training Center) - acting as OPFOR (opposing Forces) vehicles - they've been modified to look like soviet vehicles - but they are in process of being replaced by Vismod M113s

I'd have thought that the question should have been does the US need another MBT? I think that the answer to that is clearly "no".

i saw on the news the other day some americns with a non M1A2 /M1A1 tank it had rounder turret and lots and i do mean lots of armour plates attached to it.

You shouldn't believe everything you see on the tele. Sounds like the Tank you saw was a older model that is no longer in service in the USA, but is very much in service by other countries including allies of the USA. That would be the M60 MBT.

OR you may have seen some of the Iraqi Army MBTs that are being used by the NEW Iraqi Army, some are very obsolete. Round turret with lots of extra armor could be a T-55, T-62 or even a T-72. The T-55 has a VERY round top, as does the USA M48 and M60 to a less degree.

it did look like a M60 but was so heavily up armoured was hard to tell. but was moving with M1 tanks and us infantry (no idea of it was army or marines)

they should use these:

Not sure about that. A smaller, faster tank with urban combat in mind could be a viable addition. Add some sponson/ball turrets on the sides/back to allow for defense from multiple angles and allows defense at very short range which reduces some of the need for infantry support. Multiple "turrets" & gunners allow for greater field of fire and more eyes on the enemy without having to hang out of the hatch.
