Judge Dredd FAQ question collection

Mongoose
Hey guys,

Having played the game for a few gays now, I have had a few questions come up and had no clear way of answering them. After doing some research online, I have found that a number of them are shared by many players. To that end, I thought I'd start this thread in the hopes that we can get the more frequently asked questions out to the Mongoose Publishing and Warlord games teams to help them out with their FAQ and Errata.

I am aware that some questions in this thread may have been asked several times, and where that is the case and an answer has been given, I'll update my post/s with the answer to those questions.

If other members have questions that they'd like to have answered, I encourage you to leave them in here.

So without any more rambling on, here are the questions I have and have found to be fairly frequent. I'll try to keep them in the order they come from in the rulebook where possible.

Quick Edit:
Sorry for the wall of posts by me... I thought it would be cleaner/neater if I separated the sections out into their own post.

Anyway, if anyone has any other questions, please post them in here and I'll put them into the relevant section. Hopefully we can get some of the more pressing questions answered.

Cheers,

Krusader

Introduction, Models and The game turns:

1. What occurs when to models roll a natural 10 during an Opposed check?
Are these results re-rolled, or is the defender considered to have won as a natural 10 is always a success?

Shoot Actions:

1. Do friendly models block Line of sight for shooting?

2. If friendly models do not block Line of Sight for shooting, do they grant the target model of a shooting attack where a friendly model in the way a cover bonus?
The rules mention "a crowd of panicking civilians" as granting Light Cover, so is the assumption that a friendly model in between the attacking model and their target, also light cover correct?

Melee Actions:

1. When pushing a model 2" due to winning a close combat, what is defined as directly away from the model?
Is directly away from the model defined as in the direction the charging model came from, or in any legal direction from the victor?

2. Can you push a model that lost combat "through" their faction models?
If a model loses combat, can the victor use the 2" push to push them past the losing models gang members? Or will they stop at the minimum allowable distance from their factions model?

3. Can you declare a melee action against a target that is around a corner?
The rules state that you can not charge around a corner. Does this mean that you simply can not make a melee action against a target around a corner, or rather you can never gain the Charging bonus against these targets?

Advanced Rules:

1. If a minion passes an arrest attempt, do the remaining Judges have to attempt to arrest them?
The rules state that if a minion succeeds against a Judge attempting to arrest them, they need not take any more opposed will checks in order to evade arrest. Does this mean that a Judge who has not attempted to arrest them is free to go for the kill or must they still attempt to arrest the minion? If the latter is the case, do you simply treat the minion as a Hero in regards to this attempt (meaning the automatically pass the check without taking it.)?

2. How does a Critical hit work against a roll of a natural 10 from a defender?
This question has come up a fair amount. The idea is this: If making a shooting/combat attack against a target, and both models roll a natural 10, does the defender's natural 10 cancel out the damage automatically or do you apply modifiers to the dice rolls as per normal and then workout if the Attacker was successful or the Defender managed to dodge/block the attack? The question boils down to if these rolls are consider opposed rolls or not. The opposed rolls rules state that a roll of a Natural 10 is an automatic success.

3. Is it intended that you will always take at least one (1) hit from falling?
The rules read that if you pass an Agility check, you halve the damage you take, rounding up. So does this mean that falling from a height of 4" or less is always going to do one hit worth of damage? Furthermore, does a successful Agility roll when falling 15+" simply remove half your hits? If yes, is it half your remaining hits or half of your starting value?

Creating a Force:

1. Under weapons and Equipment the should the line "They may never be purchased an amount of waepons..." actually read "They man never purchase an amount of weapons..."?

2. Under the Justice Department , and similar to above, should "No Justice department model may be purchased equipment..." read "No Justice department model may purchase equipment..."?
For the sake of simplifying these questions, is any case where it says "May be purchased up to..." supposed to read "May purchase up to..." correct?

Equipment:

1. Do you need to select what type of ammo you are using when you equip a Judge with the Lawgiver Mk. I prior to a game?
The rulebook says that it carries two magazines each of which carry two shell types, forcing a judge to choose how to equip his Lawgiver in each mission. It then goes on to say that the Mk. I carries the same rounds as the Mk. II. Is the statement about the magazines "fluff" related or can you select any round the Mk. II fires, with the exception of Stumm Gas rounds, during a game?

2. Does the Lawrod simply choose from rounds that the Mk. I can use, so in effect the same rounds as the Mk. II minus the Stumm Gas rounds?

Scenarios:

1. Where do the Attacker and the Defender deploy in the Heist scenario?
In the Heist scenario, the set up tells us that the Attacker deploys all of their models in the center of the table in a building. The Defender is then able to deploy at least 18" away from any of the Attackers models. Yet the image outlining the deployment zones shows the Attacker and Defender deployment zones are switched from what they are described in the text. Is the Attacker supposed to be the side trying to move the loot off of the board or are they trying to prevent that?
