The Kickstarter for the Journal of the Travellers' Aid Society has been fully funded, and stretch goals have started to be unlocked!

Thus far, an additional two volumes have been unlocked, meaning backers will now be receiving five Journals in a slipcase at no extra cost!

The Journal of the Travellers’ Aid Society was a magazine-format way, way back in the ‘Classic’ Traveller era of the early 80’s, a treasure trove of articles, introducing many of the concepts we take for granted in Traveller today. We are now bringing the Journal back as a set of supplements. To this end, we have been trawling through the Journals of yesteryear, selecting the best articles, and revising/re-writing them for the latest edition of the game, and adding a whole Leviathan's cargo hold worth of new material.

There is truly something for everyone in these books, from adventures that a referee can pull out at short notice when the Travellers jet off in an unexpected direction, to a wide range of new alien races that will be fully playable for those who want to try something a bit different. The Kickstarter page and its updates have a contents list of the first Journals, along a PDF download of the work-in-progress Volume One, which is being continually updated over the course of the Kickstarter.

You can even explore the new Delphinus starliner here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1990654819/traveller-rpg-the-journal-of-the-travellers-aid-so/posts/2446523

Whether you are exploring your own universe or are deep within Charted Space, we are hoping that every page of these new Journals will trigger new ideas, adventures and deep space explorations at every turn!

Matt,

Assuming we don't get all the way to the sixth volume, what is the possibility of making it an optional buy? I realize that means the case gets expanded as well, thus potentially increasing production costs.

Also, is there a way to get the embossed covers without all the other stuff being added? Pencils and dice aren't interesting or useful to me. I much prefer a nicer looking book in my collection.

If we do not get to the sixth volume (we are on course for it, it seems), we are likely to look at doing another set of Journals in the future.

As for the TAS Welcome Pack, I am afraid it has to be all or nothing, as low run items like this are eye-wateringly expensive! However, we are looking to add more items to the pack as stretch goals, so hopefully you will find other things worthwhile!

I'm just looking for the embossed covers. The rest, well, I don't need more dice and I prefer mechanical pencils. :)

I've seen the starmaps for the Dynchia and the Girug'kagh articles, and I've a few questions:

1): It's good to see Melantris is now 'official' (see The Source of Truth™, where it's listed as "Unofficial"), but how many planets the Dynchia Comitia controls? Do you have the borders of this interstellar state marked somewhere, too?

2): The Source of Truth™ lacks the data for Ruupiin Sector, home of the K'kree and the Girug'kagh. I see it's now called Purrin Sector, or it's an error? Do you think we can hope for the official data for this critical sector anytime (relatively) soon?

Need to recharge my card in April, but definitely backing your Kickstarter!

Consider these 'semi-official', for now. This is an area we are looking at, but we need to get a few other things done before we can start officially labelling things canon. The JTAS articles are a way for us to start the ball rolling.

Yep, Matt and I are in touch.

Baldo: what would you hope to see about Ruupiin? To be honest, I expect it to have plenty of pacified, cookie-cutter garden worlds under the watchful eyes of Steppelords, a handful of interdicted sophont homeworlds still being guided to the true path, lots of inhospitable worlds that are not worth colonizing, and many blasted, sterile hellscapes where G'naak were found and cleansed. But not much variety beyond those extremes.

What are you hoping to discover?

I can't speak for Baldo, but I'd like to see exactly that: What the pattern is around the K'kree homeworld. Having read most of the published material on the race, what you describe is about what I'd expect. I'd just like to see it canonized to gain a greater understanding of what the K'kree do. The K'kree have a penchant for planet-cleansing genocide. It would be interesting to see how that affects the localized areas around the worlds they do value. Sure, it would be an awfully difficult region to actually role play in, but you never know! A referee could run a game in which Imperial diplomats delve deep into K'kree space and witness first hand how they have made their mark on their home region.

Adventurous places to visit, of course! :D However your examples are perfect already, just add some (interdicted?) planets where the cleansing of g'naak fauna caused ecological disaster on a BIG scale for more variety.
I simply think that "empty hole" named Ruupiin feels weird, it's the home sector of a major race, after all. But maybe you have a few surprises for us in your https://travellermap.blogspot.com/ anytime soon... ?
