Item Enchantments

Hey Everyone,

Fairly new to the Legend system and am very intrigued by it. I've read over Arms and Equipment of Legend and was wondering what everyone would think of a list of enchantments specifically designed for weapons/armour/rings etc. I get that common magic is usually added to items to make them magical, but what does everyone think of a list of enchantments that are for items only? Or would a list of new spells and the options of item enchantment be more preferable?

I've been looking at using old D&D modules as the basis for Legend games and converting over magic items is usually very easy using Arms of Legend's Enchanting rules and Blood Magic's rules for extracting power points/magic points.

E.G. Kwaimo a 4th level mage in Dwellers in the Forbidden City has a wand of negation. Based purely on that description (I've never played AD&D) I set up a wand of negation using the Common Magic Countermagic 2 spell that recharges in 5 minutes for Kwaimo (2MP/Magnitude = 4 MP cost drawn from slave mongrelmen using avulsion or some other method).

Horan is a 12th level mage in the same module who has Bracers of Defence, a potion of extra healing and a scroll of Protection from Magic. These I turned into Amulet of Countermagic Shield 4 (2 MP) recharges in 5 minutes, Bracers of Protection 4 (2MP) recharges in 5 minutes and a Potion of Heal 4.

I could have made the Countermagic Shield amulet a one use object but with the prevalence of magic in the environment I thought that it made more sense to have it as a rechargeable item.

Given that it's so easy to make up equivalents to items from the most common fantasy RPG around I don't think that a list of enchantments specifically for items is needed.

Take a look at my Eberron conversion in my signature. I believe it is easiest to simply make magic-into-item rules, rather than item-specific rules.

New spells are OK, but a list of new enchantments would be really useful.

In my opinion, the MRQ Enchantment system was better than any of the ones in previous RQ systems - it is one thing that was good even in MRQ1.

I haven't checked out the Legend Enchantment rules yet, but I hope they kept the ease of use and modular approach from MRQ.

The Enchantment rules in Arms of Legend are copypasta from MRQII Arms & Equipment without the Divine enchantments section from pp96-99. It does however also include just one paragraph from the Sample Enchantments section after Power crystals that is very out of place.

TBH the whole Enchantments section in Arms of Legend could have done with some more development to improve the language and make the whole thing tidier.
