INVALID SESSION

What is this "Invalid Session: Please resubmit the form" bug I keep getting? Eventually I get the post out, but it's been a convoluted struggle I think every single post. Is this normal for these boards? What up?

I do not have problems using Firefox ver 2 and using a dedicated IP address.

Here are some possibilities.

One reason is cookie settings [setting on the user end or the server end] Sorry - can't tell you exactly what to look for but I believe it would have something to do with A) allowing cookies or B) persistence, or how long the cookie is set to last.

Dial up accounts like AOL can give your computer a dynamic IP and if it changes then your session with the server gets messed up. Wireless networking can also do this if the signal is lost then comes back.

There are all kinds of programs and plugins that are supposed to make life easier but end up causing problems. Examples: background downloaders, and forum or blog 'helper' apps.

This can also happen when using a proxy server for internet access.

Firewalls and security software can cause this.

Power saving settings can cause this.

None of the things mentioned above specifically causes the problem - plenty of people use them without issues. Usually it is just some hard to find setting somewhere.

For troubleshooting, I would suggest installing a current version of an Internet Browser that has never been installed on your computer before (often previous settings just follow over if all you do is upgrade something you have used before). If with the default settings of this new browser you DO NOT have problems, then you know it is something in the browser you were using. Otherwise, well, good luck - too many unknowns.

I dunno.
It's a fairly new computer, doesn't have a firewall (they're a massive pain), I use cookies, DSL not Dialup, I post on other sites without a hitch. It's very annoying, though!

No firewall? Nothing?

You're a braver man than I!

NoNoNo. Not in today's world; much too reckless! I have Antivirus. That'll get the job done pretty well, and doesn't interfere with every download you attempt like a Firewall does.

Might want to consider putting up a firewall now, its not very wise to say such a thing in a public forum

Have you tried a free software solution like Zonealarm? I've used it for a few years and it's nearly invisible. You tell it which applications are allowed to access the internet and once that's done you never really see it again. It's worth a look, as anti-virus on it's own doesn't cut the mustard. I was hacked a few years back and had to reformat my pc to get the guy off it. (walking into the room and watching someone else tooling around accessing your stuff on the screen was somewhat irritating  )

If you have XP (service pack 2 or later) or Vista then you have a firewall that should be enabled by default. Check in the Security Centre in the control panel. The Windows Firewall is good enough for general use.

If you deliberately killed it though, well... I suggest putting it back up ASAP, and then giving your computer a really REALLY thorough antivirus (preferably with Kapersky or NOD32, the rest are crap) and antispyware scan (Superantispyware is a really good one).

But being without any firewall at all is just asking for trouble.
