Interesting Trends in 2300AD Ship Rules

Hi,

I got a copy of 2300AD this weekend off Drivethrurpg and got looking at the starship rules. Overall, based on a preliminary look they seem very interesting and straight forward.

When I plotted up some of the data though I noticed some interesting peculiarities that may make for making designs a little more interesting.

Specifically, here is a plot of Stutterwarp weight versus plant ID.

From looking at this plot, since weight does not progress smoothly with increasing drive letter, it gives the impression that you may end up with some interesting potential for doing different design trade-offs.

Additionally, here is a plot of Stutterwarp Performance vs ship displacement for various drive letters which suggests that on a log-log scale performance is mostly linear, suggesting for instance that a 100 dton ship with a given SW size will have twice the performance of a 800 dton ship with the same drive, etc (or basically a ship 8 times the size has 1/2 the performance - if I did the math right).

Anyway, its kind of interesting to see that ot everything in the rules is set up as a straight linear relationship, which hopefully might make for some interesting design decisions. :)

PS. There are also some similar interesting trends in the Fuel Cell & MHD tables and other interesting non-linear trends in the Fusion and Fission plant tables.

May I suggest that you expand this into a full analysis and discussion, with examples, for Freelance Traveller, a la Ken Pick's various analyses for Classic?
