Interesting interview with astronaut Gordon Cooper...

It's not that I don't get Mr. Cooper, it's the whole UFO cult thing I can't stand. I totally get them too, but just can't stand the majority of them. The exaggerations, the outright lies and fabrications, the cherry picking of quotes and figures without the basic level of understanding the facts and math, etc. etc. etc...

Granted not all the (let's call them... ) 'believers' are that out there, just the majority of them. There are very few in the open mind but skeptical camp. In short the world has far too many Mulders and not nearly enough Scullys (X-Files TV/Movie for those who missed it).

"Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof."

There are lots of extraordinary claims, even in that clip, and zero extraordinary proof. Scratch that, there's actually no proof at all let alone extraordinary for any of the claims. Of course they cover that by the usual claims of conspiracy. Riiiight...

I won't dispute that Mr. Cooper saw something at different times. I will argue quite strongly that it was not extraterrestrial craft and aliens from the distant world of some far star. Nothing he said convinces and he doesn't offer any proof. Again it's all been covered up right.

I even get the feeling the interview has been heavily edited. I'd frankly be shocked if it wasn't.

The most depressing part of that clip is the oft cited 50% (I've heard higher) of US citizens who believe in extraterrestrial visitors. A number that exceeds those who believe we actually landed men on the moon, and more conspiracy around that of course. See a theme here yet? And they are generally one and the same.

Here they shill Mr. Cooper as a believer and embrace him as one of them. Then spit on his profession and talents out the other side of their face.

Speaking of talents and accomplishments, and I won't diminish them (like they do), but what exactly do any of them have to do with UFO claims? Nothing. Not one damn thing. It's just more hucksterism by the UFOers. "Look how much this man has done and he believes so IT must be true!" Logic. Fail.

Could there be extraterrestrials visiting Earth? Yes.

Is it likely? Not even remotely.

And this from one who still wants to believe but you know what, I'm much wiser and more educated. I still keep an open mind, but it's not a empty balloon just waiting to be filled with nonsense.

So you don't turn blue in the face holding your breath waiting for me to reply...

I already wasted too much time watching yet another pointless Flying Saucers are Real!! ZOMG!! video dressed up and presented as an "interesting interview with astronaut Gordon Cooper"

A little truth in advertising by yourself and I wouldn't have bothered. I'm out of this...

What ARE you going on about?

Why won't you answer a simple q?

Weird.

You mean with a question?

I had come back to apologize if I came off as short above, maybe give it another shot, but strike that. To continue the above X-Files reference I had you pegged more as a Scully than a Mulder and figured if you said it was interesting it would be and from that perspective. Different strokes I guess. Nothing new in this clip to me. Same old same old. I had a feeling as soon as I heard "Riker" narrating where it was going. He's another Believer iirc, and has been associated with many of these productions. Good money makers. My mistake for misreading you and expecting something else. Won't happen again. And this time I am truly out of this thread.

p.s.

Honestly, because it showed you didn't read what I posted or you wouldn't have asked it.

I read it. I just couldn't make sense of the emotions when viewed in the context of the video I posted. Some people react that way. Actually, MANY do. One of the reasons the gov keeps this under wraps. I saw one scientists, after viewing a video shot from Sky lab, have to be sedated.

Heh - yup, when you can't stop laughing, it hurts - sedation would help in those circumstances!

Give me a good reason why the government would keep the existence of aliens under wraps, and I might believe you. And I mean a good reason...

Alternatively, give one single politician who wouldn't 'spill the beans' on a conspiracy like this to get more votes in a re-election?

I have found the one weakness of the troll! Tell the towns-people for from today - WE ARE FREE!!!

Depends - governments DO tend have water-tight "official secrets" clauses written in for anyone who'll be senior enough to know of such things and usually pretty serious consequences for anyone who breaks them... and that's not to mention what else may be threatened behind the scenes (it may be possible, given the powers a security agency has, to threaten to throw every check at their families (tax evasion, etc) at the very least and to go through their history with a fine-tooth comb (and which politician doesn't have at least one secret that they'd like to keep quiet...

Not convinced of the truth of this either way, but I do know how governments tend to think...

Barnest: It seems to me one of two possibles: They don't want other governments to know that they're in contact with them (if they exist and they are in touch), they may be worried about the psychological effect (some people in the bible-belt in the US still argue that the world is only a few thousand years old - what effect would a race from another planet have on them, do you think?) and lastly, peer pressure - the UK government tends to follow the US lead for the most part - so would be unlikely to break ranks now...

Also, governments don't like to be shown to be wrong in anything - if they say "yes, there are aliens and they're visiting us", only for it to turn out to be an advanced vehicle or other explained phenomena, they'd look completely incompetant. Of course, the reverse would also be true - if they passed off all documentated evidence as fake and then a flying saucer landed on Horse Guard's Parade, they'd also look like fools...

Many goverments keep secrets just because they keep secrets. Things tha would not be kept secret until they think somebody may want to know it, so if someboedy wants to know then there must be a reason t keep te secret even if they dnt know what it is.

But, the idea that a politician would spill the beans is also compelling.

I personaly love th ancient astrotaughts guys. The aliens built te pyramids. Really? the best they could do was big pile of solid rocks? Thats it? do they also fy rock hulled ships? Andf the best elictrical system is a batery so weak you cant even get a shock from it? Wow, what powerful aliens.

Actual, I have no problem with ether acientr moder aliens. I just have problem wih some of the very lame evidence.

As for why, well wen Scot got to the South pole he wrote " Great God! What an awfull place." Most likely he could have figured that out without actually gin there. So we cerainly poke our noses nto smeplaces for no reason at all, aliens may well do the same.
