I am toying around with the concept of having characters integrating runes in different ways. Most of this is heavily inspired by the legend of Zelda games, but basically boils down to one concept:
Having a rune physicaly meld into a personal item, like a sword, mask, or musical instruement (like an ocarina). Now, aesthetically this is cool, but it makes it easy for a rune to get stoeln, and what if the item breaks. Now doubtless it will increase the cost of some mundane tirnkets, but I think it opens up the possibility for cool magic, like Rune Music Magic with the ocarina, or possilby shape shifting with the masks. I suppose it would not make much of a difference with weapons, would it?
Also with integrating runes, you must be physically touching htem for the spell effect or bonus, but do any of you let your players physically abosorb them into their body? I am thinking of doing this, as having to be in physicall touch with the rune all the time becomes annoying to keep track of. I mean if it is around someones neck what stops a player from being punched flat footed and robbed? At least if it becomes part of the character there is less to worry about, and it makes a cool aesthetic for the character.
One last thing: have your players integrated a dragonewt rune yet or tried to integrate 9 undead runes at once (to become a vampire)? Normally I would not let a player be a dragonewt or vamp/were myself (unless they did this).
