The irony is, the Battle of Scarif and the Vader cameo actually make the film.

Much like the Luke cameo at The Mandalorian finale.

I dunno. It was cool to see Vader go full Sith powers, but I wasn't blown away.

I watched ep. 1 of Mandolarian and realized I was done with Star Wars.

Perfectly fair not to like it. But for me it is one of the most Traveller-like shows. Flying from crappy, backwater-planet to crappy, backwater-planet, a "big meaningful plot" in the background, but most of the lead's time is spent just trying to get by, to pay for fuel, repairs and maintenance, or dealing with the repercussions of shit they did the last time they passed that way.

That's a good point

I forgot to mention Space Battleship Yamato (2010) has some good instances of what being on a capital ship might be like for the crew.

Now the Vader scene at the end of Rogue One, that’s another story. That might be the best 60 seconds in all of the Star Wars films combined.

The recent Syfy series Dark Matter and Killjoys - of the two, Dark Matter is the closest to Traveller, and also features an opening scenario (people wake from cold sleep on a ship, possessing all their skills, but absolutely none of their personal memories - they don't even know their own names) would make for a fabulous start for a Traveller campaign.

I watched the first two seasons of Dark Matter on Netflix a while back and enjoyed it.

I also got to re-watch a couple of S1 episodes of Space: 1999. It was hokey as heck, but some of the plot ideas weren't bad.

Plus, Sir Christopher Lee as an alien ship captain! What's not to love? :D

Seen the old anime series in 1980, ah memories "starts reminiscing the good old times"...

Say, have you seen Cowboy Bebop?

Good stuff, truly a pity can't find it on Amazon Prime...

Star Blazers was one of my favorite shows growing up in the 70s & 80s. Bebop is on Hulu, I believe.

I can't believe I forgot Killjoys. The first season was terrible - it tried to be serious and failed, but after that they stopped caring what people thought and just bought into being what it was. Then, it became a great show that, I think, you could steal a lot of ideas from, particularly if you've got a psion, Ancients or Deepnight theme in your game.

Just watched the first Dark Matter on your recommendations. Six amnesiac murder hobos wake up from cold sleep in an unknown ship. Cheesy dialogue, everyone’s good looking of course, meh special effects, so-so sets and a moderately compelling space opera plot. I’m in!
