Imperial High Law and Smuggling

I've got a group of Ta elders who are looking at giving smuggling a try. I've dome some research into Imperial High Law to determine what the Fifth Imperium would consider contraband . While specifics aren't clear, the following is what I've come up with:

Nuclear Weapons
Slaves
Weapon Grade Radioactives

Is there anything that I'm missing, or have I including something I shouldn't have?

I will be adding a small list of highly addictive and destructive drugs as well. Anything else?

D'Oh, don't know how I missed chemical and biological weapons or psi drugs.

Regarding Hiver warbots. Is that actually specifically Hiver warbots? I didn't even realize Hivers used warbots. I know the Zhodani are huge users of warbots.

I didn't either but I recently found this super awesome page...

https://www.prismnet.com/~thrash/imperium.html

It specifically mentions smuggling Hiver warbots an being an Imperial High crime. I guess smuggling Zhodani bots would a similar offense.

Zhodani warbots are pretty dumb.

Hiver warbots use state of the art - actually higher than Imperial TL - AI brains in theirs to give them total autonomy.

Somehow I do not see Hiver's creating warbots for any reason other than to accidentally 'lose' so they end up smuggled by 'clever' people right into an area they planned to socially manipulate. I have a feeling the warbots are brighter than the smugglers.

Hivers hate the idea of personal violence so they build AI warmachines to do it for them - been part of canon for a long long time.

Pharmaceuticals. especially ones that are heavily taxed, potentially harmful, or have illicit uses.
Recreational pharmaceuticals
Engineered life forms.
biologicals. viruses, bacteria fungus, etc...
Potentially harmful flora and fauna...no one wants the Spaceborne version of the cane toad/rat issue. and If I were a planetary administrator I'd order a ship dumped into the sun if it was carrying Kudzu
Subversive literature, music, art....
Unregistered/wanted Sophants. Especially in regions bordering potentially hostile races. A ship loaded of Zhodanii Prole refugees might also be a ship loaded with Zhodanii infiltrators. At least as far as Intelligence services, fleet patrols and local authorities are concerned.
Locally restricted goods, transhipment is probably legal as long as the restricted goods aren't offloaded.
Precursor components of dangerous chemicals, pharmaceuticals chemical weapons.

You should always include a misprint on an important list - if your PC's are going down the list looking for the best return on illegal activity, they could spend a long time looking for suppliers of an otherwise mundane, misprinted item. Eric Frank Russell's "Allamagoosa" is a funny take on this idea.

Chamax. Just saying....

Considering what get's confiscated at out little earthbound airports and borders, a spaceport has to be a riot.

"And did you really think you would get a weed whacker, a large bottle of lotion and a hiver warbot through the x-ray machine?!"

That's is one story I will never forget :D

Or when i had a party shipping tons of waste material from one planet to another..Seem that they figured out instead of buying industrial fertilizer they could buy the waste products of a cannery and ship it without paying taxes a local potentate had imposed on agricultural supplies to his "client" colonies. They ended up in a shooting match with the local strongman's goons over a ship load of fish guts.

You may have to have an empty bladder in order to pass through interstellar customs.

As Douglas Adams cautioned. Be sure to keep all receipts when visiting the Loo.

It’s probably the “armed AI” that’s the problem, and not the weapons platform itself. You could probably ship just the weapons platform without the AI legally just fine... but, for the sake of smuggling, then you would have to figure out how to smuggle the AI part.

So far we have:

Nuclear weapons
Chemical Weapons
Biological Weapons
Weapon grade nuclear material
Slaves
Psi Drugs
Psi Technology (I assume not psi shields though)
Warbots of Hiver manufacture
Class A illicit drugs (added this myself)

Anything else?

What about things like Human Body Parts?

Looking at the core rule book's trade tables on page 213 we have illegal biochemicals, illegal cybernetics, illegal drugs, illegal luxuries and illegal weapons, and according to page 211 these goods are illegal throughout the Imperium. Unfortunately page 213 gives few examples of the precise nature of the illegal trade goods, but I think you can at least add endangered species to your list.
