Hyperspace Mastery

My friends and I will be playing a match with 3 players one of which will be the shadows. The Scenario we have created allows for fleets to be kept in hyperspace allowing for the normal rules i.e. an allied vessel is still on the table.

Now my question is this if the shadow player has 3 ships in hyperspace can they be used as iniative sinks at all? In the below example the Shadow player has all his ships in hyperspace:

Player 1 moves his first ship followed by Player 2 the shadow player does nothing. Player 1 then moves his second ship and so on etc. Now lets say on the third ship to be moved the shadow player appears with one of his ships on the board claiming he is able to do so as the other two were used as iniative sinks i.e. he chose not to enter the battle with them. Would this be allowed? Or does the shadow player have to exit hyperspace on what would be his first turn i.e. if he were second when iniative was rolled.

Sorry if this getting a bit confusing the reason I ask is I can see this being an issue in our future game.

No, you cannot use a ship in hyperspace as an initiative sink.

You also can't do what your shadow player does in the example, that is, pass your turn and then suddenly try to move another ship claiming that you used initiative sinks on previous turns. When it is your turn you must specify a ship or squadron to activate. If you "pass" then you can't move anything else.

Thanks Burger that is what I would think would happen either you do something in your first turn or nothing for the rest of the movement.

So would you need to drop all ships out of hyperspace or could u do it 1 at a time i.e. drop one ship out when its your turn then when its your turn again drop another and so on?

You can do it one ship (or squadron) at a time.

Bear in mind that Shadows must still use Initiate Jump Point in the turn before they appear, but you do not have to declare where it will be jumping in to since you don't need to put down a jump pont counter. So turn 1 declare that the ship is using IJP, and turn 2 it appears on the table anywhere you like.

Are you sure? I can't find any rule supporting your view. Hyperspace mastery only states that IJP must be used to enter hyperspace.

Hmm true, the rules aren't really clear on entering realspace. We just play it the same as entering hyperspace, it makes sense and makes Shadows the same as other races, just without the need for jump point counters.

I always thought that the Shadows placed their ships immediately when moving to realspace, although I suppose it makes sense that if they need to use IJP to jump out they should need it to jump in too. I'll have to have a closer look at that later.

I play it Burger's way but I did realise that it's not quite the same as other races. They can't hold the JP open for 3 turns, so when you use the SA they must come on next turn regardless.
