Hyperion in Command

So, I've been going thru my fleet list, creating 5 pt Raid fleets of what 'I' think are 'good' choices and while creating my EA ones, I had a question.

Under 3rd age, the only command ships are the Omega and Poseidon and even though Hyperions are still present in the lists, could a Command Variant be used instead of the higher level ships?

Being War level command ships, anything lower than a Battle level fleet (3rd age) doesnt get command unless you want just a few ships and a Bohemoth.

thoughts? denials? anything....

Well to answer the original question anyway... no you can't use ship variants from another era. The command hyperions were phased out/decomissioned and replaced wth omegas. Same applies to other variants too such as artemis escort, olympus gunship etc.

It also depends on if your sticking with the inservice dates. A lot of times when we play we dont, we just take what we want.

Well, my theory was, if you still have Hyps around, you could 'technically' call it a command. But like I said early, I didnt read very well since the Avenger/Exp had the trait at low level.

I guess if i really wanted a command trait on a Hyp, I could add an Admiral.

I wouldn't be tempted by admirals. Its better to put an extra ship on the table. Higher redundancy. Go for the avenger.

If it matters, even though its in the early years list, the date on it is like 2235+ or something like that. It doesnt have an ending date which means its still in use. So theres nothing keeping you from using it in a third age fleet. It just wont have the updated weapons like the other hyperions get that are in the later fleet lists, so you'll be stuck with plasma cannons and no pulse cannons.

This is incorrect. In the context of the EA lists, the ISD 2235+ means from that date to the "end of the period" encompassed by the Fleet list, if you are using ISDs.

Fleet Lists (P4 of Fleet list)
This is a short but comprehensive list of every ship available to the fleet and a guide to what Priority Level each is. This allows you to construct your fleets by using a single page once you have begun to learn the capabilities of different ships.

If you want to house rule it, that's fine, but unless you're playing a campaign and get the "mothballed ship" in other duties, you can't mix and match ships in the three EA lists regardless of ISDs.

Dave

Foxmeister is correct, just like you can't claim that your Minbari built the White Star so you should be allowed one in your fleet, or the Shadows put pods on a Vorchan so should be allowed one...

If it's not in your fleet list then you can't have one.
