Hyboria for Runequest

A Conan RPG using the MRQ rules would be quite cool. There are some licencing issues which I'm hoping Mongoose can work around. My first non D&D game that I ran was aRobert E Howard inspired Runquest game using the old Blue Box set.

Is the Conan D20 (EXCELLENT) Going to be a setting for Runequest?

What's to stop you form getting the Conan books and simply using the d100 mechanics of MRQ? I don't think you need to wait for Mongoose's and/or Conan Properties' official blessing. You don't even need the MRQ books. All you need is the SRD.

The Conan books are pretty good as world setting sources, much more complete than TSR's old Conan the RPG or GURPS Conan. Just ignore ignore all that dopey character class stuff and you're good to go.

On this, I shall agree with you. THe things that make a game or adventure "conan" are things that are far more reliant on the GM than the system in question, IMO

I already have ALL the Conan RPG source books, just getting fed up with the D20 system...

I use all my Conan books as Source books and presently use Edens very cinematic system, not a fan of D20

My own campaign is quite a "multisystem" one... We started using the standard OGL Conan rules but they suck so much that we all decided to change the system to a variant of the Chaosium Elric rules (some of my conversions notes can be found on the Conan forum). Still not being satisfied, I then moved to MRQ for a while. Both system are quite good but there are still things not to my taste in both, so perhaps I'll try to merge them, taking the best of both worlds (Even some ideas from the OGL could be included).

In my eternal quest to find the perfect Conan system, I unearthed the old Conan RPG from TSR (I made an old campaign in 85 using this rules). Although the game has an "unfinished" flavor (like many of the TSR games published at that time), I still find the rules really interesting and the game really run smoothly. So my next adventure will be using this rules but I still don't know if I will keep them or go back to the D100 system... I'll probably have a look at the new Elric rules before making another change...

actually, using conan world books and the ruinquest system would be an easy convertion. As the GM you may want to create a racial table for skill bonus and stat bonus (if needed) You may also want to give players more languages since these play a huge part in conan.

I agree with this. Especially the languages, races, and proffesions will need to be reworked. I will also add Ability modifiers for each race. Right now, and I am working on it, there are a few moreadaptations I am going to make. Gods, a few spells will be converted and a few new ones added, I will adapt the chaos magic from Lankhmar, as it befits Hyboria better.. Also, the monsters will be converted, especially to make DEMONS more than spirits.

Of course, I should waite for BRY'S SPELL BOOK to see what beauties he has created..

Please note: This is for my personal game. If I can, I will send it to mongoose to see if the rules and adaptations do not violate the OGL then put in on the web... Depending on how good it is, I may put it svgames or something similiar, but we are talking a WHILE from now...
