How to determine ship stats?

Hello fellow admirals.

I'd like to add a few (as of yet) missing ships to VaS but I have no idea how to determine the ship stats. So those of you who have done new ships how did you determine the stats?

I figured stats as: damage= displacement /1,000; speed= knots/5; crew= complement/25. Looked through Janes and a bunch of other books/websites and averaged any variances. Go to the resources "sticky" post at the top of the list and you will find alot of information. I particularly like navweaps and navsource sights, along with the combined fleet sight for IJN. Gunnery and weapons stats were mostly compared to listed stats in the book. Not too sure of the link right now but Burger's new "wiki" ship viewer was an excellent tool for me. You can link to it in his signature found in any of his posts. I made a bunch of ships for a battle of Samar Island scenario we will be doing in October.
