How to build a fleet?

Hi
Can you tell me how to build fleet? Is there any Points costs for ship where are they? For example in WH40K there are some tourmaments for 500 points 1500 etc. What is most common type of tormament army ?
If I buy Narn or Centauri fleet box is it enough et least for some tournaments? I'm realy new to this all :D

Silly question, but have you picked up a copy of the rule book yet? Just seems like a number of your questions are fairly straightforward and easily located if in fact you have a copy of the book. That's not to say that there aren't people here who will be more than happy to answer them, I jus kind of wonder wether or not you have one.

both the Centauri and Narn fleet boxes have plenty of ships for a 5 point raid fleet, which is typical of a tournament. You may not be able to field a very flexible force, but its there nonetheless.

Maybe. But Im ONLY one who plays (at least starting) B5 in my city. So I can't ask no one. Some friends want to play too ,but they will start only with me. I newer saw any miniatures B5 made by others. Im reading rules but I want to know some things more and just to make shure in others  Thank you for good programme :)

Start with the boxed set (and Sky full of Stars/Armageddon books); it contains several sheets of counters marked up with fire arcs et al, which will allow you to try just about any possible fleet before committing to buying yourself some metal.

For a similar reason, people are more likely to be prepared to have a go with no money at stake. Let people figure out which fleet they like, and then get a fleet set.

Essentially there's no points cost as such - each ship has a 'priority level'
battleship, warship, and so forth.

At it's simplest level, a 2 point game at battle priority allows two battle priority ships (like omega-class destroyers)

The lower the priority relative to the priority of the game you're playing, the more you get, and vice-versa - see here:

Typical Campaign fleets are 10 points at battle priority.
Typical Tournament fleets are 5 points at raid priority, but I've seen 5 point battle tournaments or 1 point armageddon tournaments.

We also did a local micro-tournament (good for new starters to the hobby) of 5 points at patrol level. The game changes dramatically when you find yourself in games where Novas actually earn the sobriquet 'dreadnought' and even a boresighted sunhawk is a major threat.

Use the chits to get a feel for the game and fleet sizes and uses. The box set comes with a bunch and the SFOS chit set is big.

Just to clarify a point, that link takes you to the point split rules in armageddon, the box set and SFOS have simpler breakdown rules.

Is Fleet points only Random or defined is scenario ? For example on Raid how mainy points I have? I looked in rules but I'm still not shure how its works. I almost understood how to select the ships but where to get points at first?

It depends. You can roll randomly, use specific sized forces based on a scenario, or come to a concensus with the person you are playing against.

Tournaments are traditionally 5 raid.

The scenarios at the back of the book give the number of points used, or tell you to roll on the table at the beginning of the section for random points. There is also a table for random priority levels. Some scenarios use set forces and they will be detailed in the descriptions.
