How often roll for Radar?

Hi all! Quick quesiton on radar. We are a little confusted on how often and when you roll to detect ships with radar.

1) Only once when ship is placed on the table (p 16 VaS book)? at the begining of the game.

or

2) every turn for each ship not already detected?

or

3) every turn only for ships that werent detected earlier

Hi all. Sorry to be such a nuisance but I did quick search and still didn’t come up with anything.

We played the game that you only attempted to detect once (at the beginning of the game) with each ship equipped with radar but I have a feeling that’s incorrect.

1) Should each ship equipped with Radar try and detect every turn against every enemy ship?

2) Do you have re-detect each turn or once detected, is it detected for rest of game from the “spotting” ship?

The way we played it under the RAW was that each ship made a radar detection roll when it was activated during the attack phase. It either worked for all enemy ships, or it didn't.

Radar should be rolled for at the time that each ship with radar is activated. You only need to roll for ships that the activated ship did not previously detect.
