How Many Points?

How many points is usually played? What would be a good number of points to build a fleet around? I have a EA fleet box and have 3 Olympus, along with 4 Oracles if they ever are delivered to the distributor. I have concentrated on early age as of right now but am looking to go into crusade next. Would like some insight into what I might have to get in the way of models. Any input will be much appreciated.

Most tournaments are usually 5 raid. If you are planning on playing in campaign fights, you will need a lot more. I have about 12 or so battle worth of EA with more coming. I have enough ISA to fight about 8 or 9 War. Plus I have just picked up a smattering of Centauri figs, 1 Octurian, 3 Primus, 4 Dargan, a Centurian, a corvan, about 6-8 Vorchans, Some Havens, and a couple of Kutai. Their low on my painting list right now.

My EA Fleet is:

3 Orestes
2-3 Avengers
6 Hyperions
3 Olympus
3 Oracle
2 Sag
12 Tethys

with 4 Omegas and 4 Novas on the way.

They are all FA Scale. I am going to use the Tethys as Hermes for now.

I have a full boxset of ISA Plus a few extra whitestars, a WS Gunship that I was planning on using as a WS 2, and a couple of allied ships to go with them.

The Early EA is a pretty decent fleet, and I would consider them for tournament play if the Tiger Starfury wasn't so weak.

A standard tournament fleet would be 5 Raid points. A game of this should last about 2-3 hours, depending on players speed and fleet taken (lots of small ships takes longer than a few big ones).

As mentioned above, a "standard" pickup/tournament game is 5 point Raid and I'd recommend you have about 5 Battle points to give you enough flexibility to play against different races and cover most of your campaign options (even though you nominally have a 10 Battle point fleet for a campaign, you rarely use the whole lot at once and even then can use counters for the remainder). Also I find if you have the time, 5 point Battle games are a lot more varied and fun than 5 point Raid games, in particular as you can use your larger ships :)
