They are faking those maintenance rates. Yanno, like the French built a forest to stop an army. Who takes an army through a dark a scary forest???
And you forgot to provide those special glasses for you video. It was just a bunch of black and white stripes and some chick in a red dress. Couldn't even understand
was sie gesagt hat.
The French quite intelligently used the existing Belgian forest to secure their flank. Who could possibly imagine running a major motorised offensive through a forest? And who could possibly imagine them using the same forest for an attack a few years later?
It reminds me of a time we were in the Netherlands. The locals proudly warned us about their local forest, it was big enough to get lost in! Being from Sweden where a "forest" is larger than a small country such as the Netherlands, we looked at their small copse and were completely unimpressed...
That was just some kind of noise. Mu computer successfully saved against even playing that...
The logic has something to do with only having a few narrow roads, and the forest blocking off-road travel. A single broken down vehicle could create a traffic jam that could stop a division or two for days. And if you succeed in transporting your combat units you have to supply them through the mud ditches that once were dirt roads...
Too illustrate look up the Battle of Suomussalmi, the Finns performed really impressively throughout WWII.
A lot of places were thought to be impassable for armies, before the army commander decided they were going through there and sent his corps of engineers forward to make it so.
Like Hannibal, who wanted to pick up some Toblerones before vacationing in Italy, by detouring through the Alps.
The only problem is that conventional wisdom is often right. For every commander that passed an unpassable obstacle and goes on to dominate the history books, there are a lot of commanders that try and fail, and are easily forgotten.
