HG pulse laser hit DM

Quick question (I hope!)

HG updates the pulse laser with a -2DM to hit - I take it this DM replaces the current core rulebook DMs across all range bands (up to very long) rather than being in addition to them (which would make it pretty useless...)?

Good question. It does seem like double-booking and in a bad way, doesn't it? I went the other direction and replaced the -2 DM with the range DMs. Keeps the DMs to a single mechanism, streamlining combat.

I hope one of us is correct. Otherwise, as you pointed out, it makes pulse lasers pretty useless despite the damage they provide. Even 10d6 damage = 0 if the weapon doesn't hit a target most of the time.
 
Looking carefully over the capital ship combat charts seems to indicate that pulse lasers do indeed have a -2 DM to hit in addition to the range modifiers. :(

Time to revisit some of my smallcraft designs.
 
That'll teach me to actually read the books I purchase - I'll take a closer look... :oops:
