Hey Mongoose: Conan 2ed and RTTROK Binding issues.

Mongoose
Hey everyone at Mongoose and the Gaming community. I'm not one to complain to much. I love this game, I've been playing since it was first released. However, I have purchased my books (Conan 2ed. and RTTROK) on the first week of January and the pages are already coming off of the binding. Is this what I am to expect from future Mongoose products? I also play Elric and Hawkmoon. My Hawkmoon rule book is also doing the same thing.
Is this happening to other players?
Is there a way to fix this problem, ie. return books to manufacture?
Just be unhappy and cautious on buying future books from mongoose?

Mongoose is a great gaming company with great classic game play. They have something great to offer the gaming community. I have been playing RPG's for 21 years. I don't recall any that did not have any errata in them from grammer to rules corrections. I have never had books just come apart at the binding before (except a starwar empire sourcebook from west end games). That was over 10 years ago.

Whats going on?
Cutting Cost?

I don't mind the black and white pages. I like it black and white. I just want to keep my pages together and not have to take it to my local Office Max and have a spiral binder installed on my book that I already paid 35-40 dollars for.

O.K. I think I'm done with my rant. Come on guys, you're doing an awesome job with the RPG hobby lets not blow it on quality.

Join the club. Email Matt Sprange about the books. They've been very good - albeit s-l-o-w - in replacing defective books.

As I said in another post, even the replacement books are coming loose. The only way to rectify this do a stitch binding. I would pay the extra money.

Well - I can't use my replacement book as evidence of improved quality. It arrived, I shelved it as I'm running Solomon Kane now instead. I sincerely hope it won't fall apart. But in the end it doesn't matter, I don't trust their products too much anymore.

Yep, Yep... I am through buying books. Pay all that money to have it fall apart.

Last book I get is RQ GM Guide, and I am done.

I have all the books I need for Both RQ and COnan, I need no more..

I am done too. I was going to buy the new hawmoon, elric, players guid to hyborian kingdoms and the RQ GM guid but I'm not going to now. I work way to hard for my money to have something only last a week then fall apart.

Good luck with your RPG line mongoose. I think I'll switch back to GURPS and Wizards of the Coast books. You guys should just release them on PDF at a very reduced rate. That way it won't look like you just threw a book together.

I'll be back when things get better.

We Spycraft 2.0 fans have the same problems, since Mongoose produce our books too.

There are substantial complaints:

The binding and printing problems seem to be over. I got the Player's Guide, the binding looks OK, the cover isn't bended upwards like RttRoK and printing is less dark. It took some time for the Mongoose staff to master their new printing facility but they finally managed to to it. I have no more complaints about the "physical" quality of the book (although I was a bit disapointed by the contents)...

I didn't buy any Conan 2E books yet, but some Glorantha books and they are OK, though I find the binding art somewhat odd and possibly not very strong because all the pages are supported by (that is glued to) a thin paper sheet.

It would be probably better to glue directly on the edge of the book (like, say, Chaosium, is doing - there were no problem wityh its 400 pages Beyond Mountains of madness) but I don't think it is possible with hard cover.

I am sure however that with time Mongoose will be able to produce books with stitched binding.

Since Mngoose started printing their own books, they are all falling apart.

I have ALL the RQ series to date as well as ALL Conan. I find no need to buy any others, unless Mongoose reverts to stitch binding.

My players are not bitching about Atlantean Edition, so we are sticking with that.

Atlantean edition and all the supplements for it are PERFECTLY bound.

Hi Sedric the Hero. How do I get a replacement copy like you did? Who do I talk with and How would I do it?

Thanks

Cul

If you have a faultily printed or bound book contact sales@mongoosepublishing.com OR rveal@mongoosepublishing.com and they'll sort out a replacement for you.

I sent them an e-mail and was asked to send a digital photo of the book (I sent 2 or 3) and was informed that I would receive a replacement...although I am still waiting on it.

It took three months for them to get my replacement copy to me - so don't give up hope...
