Hexagonal Fighter Counters?

Rorschach

Mongoose
I don't know if its just a tactile thing, but I vastly prefer moving those hex-shaped Fighter stands than the square counters. The hexes just seems to line up and clump better.
Now since the actual stands with minis are over $3 each, this gets prohibitive (I'm sure the Gaim players have looked already at the $400-$500 price tag just for their fighters).
Even if I just buy the plastic stands, they still work out to $1 each, which is a cash level I'd rather spend on ships.

SO, has anyone out there made a Hexagonal fighter counter PDF?
I'd also strongly urge Mongoose to consider that for the next version of solid card counters. Either that, or some serious bulk discount on fighters :-)

Well What I did was use the box set's that some of the minis come in, i traced arond the hex bases and cut them out, bit of milliput later and i've got a base for my fighters.

I had an idea about this using balsa or basswood. Get an inch wide strip and cut out the bases. A 36" by 1" by 1/2" piece shouldn't cost more than $5 and you should be able to get 25 or so stands out of it.

You can also use 1" round bases (wood ones cost about $3 for 25, less if you buy more). They work almost as well as the hexagonal ones and are cheaper.

Where do you get those? Like Hobby lobby?
Considering Patrol Boats like the Porfatis are on rounds, that might work fine..

I got mine at Michael's (craft store) but you can also buy them online. Online you also get a bigger selection of sizes, Michael's only had 3 or 4 sizes ranging from 1" to 4".

If you look at this thread, you can see the relative size of the bases to fighters and ships.

I bought 1" wood discs from Hobby Lobby here in Omaha, NE for ~$1.50 for 12 of them. They work pretty good, they measure 1" x 1/8" about the same size as the small bases the Heavy fighters use they are just flat instead of tapering off like the regular bases do. My plan is to put 2 fighters per base to increase my fighter count and that works out pretty good. Though smaller fighters (Starfuries, Rutarian, Raziks, Sentris etc) probably would work better at 3 per base.

Litko will now make hexagons in any size/quantity you want.. out of plywood, plastic, metal..

There's a B5 board game?!?

I've decided to hit the Litko source after the holidays clear out... and maybe do that Gaim fleet after all.

Ummm, yeah. I haven't been able to find much Of it, but I have managed to grab the Starter Box (enough for 4 players) and the Narn Box...
