Banded Mongoose
Hello all!

Long-time Traveller player (since, oh ... 1984) and fairly long-time lurker. I've been consumed playing my go-to game of Savage Worlds the past few years - it just hit my sweet spot as the one game. It's "elegantly simple" with both modern mechanics and old school sense. I loved it to death over the past 5 years. But now, I need something new.

Then I remember my old flame, Traveller. Dirt-simple mechanics, cool lifepath chargen that takes the emphasis off game-power character advancement and instead on in-game-world success, deadly combat that forces players to really think (only game besides GURPs I ever saw a party of PCs surrender when a enemy got the drop on them with a handgun), fun sci-fi vibe, and more.

I tried MT and GURPS Trav, and as much as I love David Pulver's work (and others!), I hated the math involved. FFS, its just a game. I want story, not a math exercise.

Taking a look at MongTrav, it does everything Classic did, fixed a bunch of gaping holes, and just makes it cool.

I'm really interested in non OTU stuff (I played the hell out of OTU back in the day). I like the looks of Cowboys and Aliens and that third-party game set in 1950s with jet pilots vs. aliens.

So, I usually only game at conventions. But I think at MichiCon this year (July 12-13, Oakland University, Rochester Hills, in Detroit area) it will be three full slots of Traveller-based fun!

P.S. besides the main book, I also got the hardback of Robots. Pretty cool thus far, but is obviously not OTU (it has force screens and energy blades). I already made up a "Bender" wannabe who served two terms as a (?) persecuted robot/cannibal, and then 1 term as an outlaw.

An outlaw robot. Too. Dang. Cool.
