Heaven and Earth Question(s)

So, I'm playing around with H&E for building a theme sector from scratch... Great stuff, but I'm a bit confused and having trouble finding some details.

What are the differences between the various rulesets? The help file is more or less useless in this regard, as it assumed I know what it's talking about. When I go through the help file to find out just what it means by 'Use Alternate UWP Generation', the description just tells me, 'This option enables the use of alternate UWP generation'.

Well, duh. But what does that mean?

Can anyone give a brief overview on the differences between:

Standard and Alternate UWP Generation

CT, MT, TNE, Gurps System Generation

CT GS/GC, MT WBH, TNE WTH, and Gurps FI World Generation

----------------------

I can figure out what the acronyms stand for, but what does that MEAN? Which has what level of detail? Which is best compatible with MGT?

It's been a while since I used Heaven & Earth for anything other than world maps, but as far as I remember:

Standard and alternate UWP generation - standard is the basic rulebook version, with the full range of possible results; alternate limits the range of results to give you fewer uninhabitable worlds.

The CT (Classic Traveller), MT (MegaTraveller) and TNE (Traveller New Era) world generation systems are basically the same system (very similar to Mongoose Traveller), although because of the background TNE will give you more borderline systems. The GURPS world system is very different from the others, with different starport designations and a different TL chart - if you don't have GURPS Traveller, don't bother.

The final line refers to supplements which offered much more detail (including societal details and randomly generating new races). It depends how much detail you want.

For use with Mongoose Traveller, you want CT or MT, which are closest to MGT. Standard or alternate is up to you and depends on whether you want to deal with populations on worlds with corrosive atmospheres, vacuum plains, etc, or whether you want a higher incidence of habitable earth-like worlds).

If you have any other questions PM me as I only check here about once a week or so.

Hope this helps.
